2001 Dodge Intrepid Water Pump Tensioner Issue?
I just purchased this vehicle from a friend of a friend. Runs nice, 185, xxx miles. Paid less than I expected so no complaints.
I noticed the engine had a rattle though when I started it with the hood open. I'm definitely no mechanic, so my first thought was "oh no, it's a rod." But it's not loud… Barely audible with the hood shut, recognizable with the hood open for sure. And it knocks in time with the engine cycle (it rattles faster when I accelerate, etc)
I searched YouTube for similar issues and I heard a video of a newer model Honda engine producing almost the same exact sound. It turned out that the issue of that car was the Water Pump Tensioner. I have no idea what that is, if that would be my issue for sure or how bad it is to continue driving the vehicle in that state if that IS the problem.Anyone want to shed some light on this? Say that the water pump is the problem. Stop driving it? And if it isn't the water pump tensioner, what else?
Added (1). This is the closest sound to what my car makes:
And like I said, it "knocks" faster when giving it some gas.
First off he is no friend this are the sh-ts bad motors. Ok now you own it so start the car put on the E brake hard foot no brake no one in front or back of the car put foot on brake pedal and step on it then put car in drive if the knock gets louder it a good change a rod or crank bear is going out. Now the bad news do fix it the is worth zero as auto wrecker we wouldn't take them for free
Well normaly a water pump goes out slow and you will see your engine temperature rise the more and more you drive it. The way i see it you have 3 options
1. Go to a repair shop and let them handle it if you have the money.
2. Get a new water pump get it in and hope it works
3. Or get a new car personally i hate dodge and chrysler products they are just not good cars past 100k miles
Sounds it may be a "belt tensioner" I never heard of a "pump tensioner" that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I replaced the tensioner on my buick. You can take it to a certified mech. & ask what they think, they won't charge for an opinion if you tell them you need to get it fixed, when you can. BELT TENSIONER.
- How can I stop water from flowing back into my Honda WB30 Water Pump 1100 LPM 80mm Outlet when the heavy duty hose attached gets blocked? I have a 1000l take of water attached to a Honda WB30 Water Pump 1100 LPM 80mm Outlet, alongside a heavy duty hose I use to water window boxes around London. When I park up the van and have to cross the road to water certain jobs, the pipe is occasionally temporarily blocked when a car runs over the hose pipe. This sends water back to the pump, and eventually breaks it. What can I do to stop the water/ pressure breaking the pump?
- Is the 1985 Honda CR 500 water pump gear shaft compatible with the 86-2001 Honda CR 500 water pump gear shaft? I have a 1985 CR 500 and the water pump gear shaft broke. It has been discontinued from Honda, and no one else has it. It is a metal gear. The one's for the 1986-2001 CR 500 are plastic. If I have to use plastic, I will. However, I prefer not to. If anyone knows where I can get the OEM 1985 Honda CR 500 gear shaft, I would forever be grateful.
- Honda Jazz won't take water in the water fill cap? I recently purchased a Honda jazz 2005 mode from a garage, top condition. I'm going on a long journey tomorrow and routinely like I would with any car I checked the water and oil levels. (cold engine). Water level was halfway between min and max so I attempted to top it up with coolant mix, however, as in poured the h20/coolant mixture into the water tank it just came straight back up as though the tank was full, although I can see it's only half full. Any ideas?
