1986-1989 Honda Accord reliability?

I'm looking to buy a cheap small car in the $1000-$1500 range I know I can't expect much for that much money but It is only gonna be a work car for me to deliver newspapers in I have another good car but it uses too much gas so I'm looking to buy a 1986-1989 Honda Accord 4cyl, does anyone know if they are a reliable car I hear they are very reliable

I was looking at a 89 Accord a few years ago and from what i can remember, they did have some cam/timing issues, they weren't expensive, but they were a common issue. Otherwise they are bullet proof cars. Google search the model, thats how i found out about the issue.

The ones with the V-tec engine went for about 10 years without a single fault recorded internationally, pretty amazing. I don't know if that generation has the V-tec engine.

Anything that old or that cheap is going to have questionable reliability.

10 years without a single fault? Proof please.

  • Honda CBR250R red line reliability? Heres the problem-how well built is the engine?-I have heard that the bike top speed is no more than 90mph but the reason I ask is because wether I get this bike or the CBR929RR am going to be riding around a lot especially long highway journeys. I would add a high air flow air filter and an exhaust system to the CBR250R so that would be a noticeable power increase for this particular bike I'm sure but IS IT OK TO KEEP IT CLOSE TO RED LINE FOR HOURS?

  • What's the best automatic Honda Civic 1996-98 model (ex. Dx.lx. Etc) as far as gas mileage and reliability? I was interested in the 96-98 hx cvt civic yet there are many complaints of heavy vibrations when stalling. Also I can't drive manual and can't afford to take lessons
  • My 1986 Honda Accord won't want to start after trip to mechanic? So I went to the mechanic because my car was hard to start in the morning and I ended up getting a new distributor and a cap. It ran fine and he recommended that I put clear gas in and get fuel injector cleaner. I was full on gas so I waited until I was about 1/4 tank then I filled up with clear gas. It ran well to the gym but when I got out, it took 15 minutes to get it started and it wouldn't idle.
