2002 Honda Accord LX with V6 engine is overheating and leaking antifreeze?

Car was fine 2 days ago, but yesterday I was parked (car still running) & it was leaking antifreeze like crazy. Called my dad & he said it might be from using the A/C, and to just throw some more antifreeze in there and it should be fine. Long story short, car ended up overheating & after letting it cool for a good 30 minutes I tried putting some more antifreeze in it. Antifreeze just POURED back out coming from the front passengers side. I know it can't really be diagnosed without looking at it, but I haven't had a chance to yet. I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas of what it could be? I'm hoping it's just a hose & not my water pump or thermostat.

Also, the cooling fan continues to run even after I shut the car off.
Also not sure if this has anything to do with it, but the past week when I hit the gas or breaks I'll feel a grinding vibration under my foot. You can't hear it & it only happens every once in awhile.

Sounds like heater core might be shot. It's an expensive fix since you have to gut the dash and that time consuming.

One of the coolant hoses/lines is leaking you'll want to get it fixed as soon as possible before you blow the head gasket and ruin your car from overheating it multiple times and playing coolant roulette.

The only thing you can do at this point is to 1: Stop pouring liquid into it and 2: Get it towed to a shop. Stop wasting anymore time. If you drive it, you'll blow the motor.

That is a perfectly good diagnoses of a water pump leaking and you can't drive it that way. It's a $700 repair. Timing belt, components and the water pump.

From your description it could be a bad radiator or heater hose, bad water pump or a leaking radiator. Do not drive it until you have a qualified mechanic check it out. You may have to have it towed to the shop.

  • I have a problem with my radiator and antifreeze, What could be the problem? Hi guys I have a Honda civic lx 97, I bought about 7 months ago, since then I have bought a new radiator because the old one had a huge leaking problem, anyways I never new How long a gallon of antifreeze could last me. I now know I use too much (I've bought two gallons once the first time i changed the radiator, again today[spand time of 4 months]) antifreeze I don't see any leakage, what could the problem be?
  • Could antifreeze be in the engine? Recently I had an issue where my 1996 Honda Civic temp gauge started to rise. I stopped the car to let it cool. I got to my destination and called husband to bring antifreeze to fill it back up. I drove it home that night and parked it. Found the problem was the radiator cap. Well now I'm noticing when I start the engine it sounds like it struggles and the RPMs rise higher than normal. It idles fine after a moment. Could this mean antifreeze leaked into the engine?
  • 2002 Honda Civic LX overheating? I bought this car and the dealer had its garage do inspection. I didn't realize they don't check coolant. So i put coolant and was fine for maybe three days. Tempature Gage was going up to red at stop, then back done when I push on gas. So I checked coolant needed some more, but there NO leak on ground. I have heat in car. And when I open cap in mornings coolant ozes out with pressure. Why? And how do I fix this problem of overheating?
  • 1997 honda civic spitting out antifreeze? So about a week ago my 97 honda civic was overheating and found that my water pump was busted. I got the water pump replaced a few days ago but now the antifreeze looks like its coming out the radiator cap. My car is no longer overheating but why is it spitting out the antifreeze now?
