98 Honda Accord engine problem?

I have a 98 Honda accord, 64,000 miles. Yes I now its low mileage for an old car. Anyways I have noticed my tachometer and speedometer will drop to zero or close to it while driving and the engine will start to die or shut off. And the engine light will turn on. This is all while driving BUT it this all happens with in a second and the car turns back on and drive off like nothing happen. And the engine light turns off. It happens so fast that it took a few times to noticed. It happens only a few times but this never happened before.

Its either a black box fault. Or its a bad battery connection… You may need to go to a Honda dealer and get them to give a readout from the plug in socket

Hi it sounds like this car has been tampered with in the past. Hence the so called low mileage. So time to get a honda diagnostic check done. The chances are some thing will be revealed by a bonds dealer which explains all this strange things.

Check the fuse clips to the two fuses that power the ECU (one goes thru the ignition switch, and the other one does not) The one that does not go thru the switch is usually the one that causes the engine to cut out the way you described. You wil see the fuses are now pasty white (they are almost 20 years old). That is tin oxide, and it is non-conductive. Clean it off the fuses and the clips, and the problem should go away.
