Am i unlucky or is car tinting that difficult?

While ago my mother bought camry and had outside tinting shop to do tint for her car. After awhile the rear windshield tint started peeling off causing unsighty bubbles. So, she had the tinting removed. But in the process, they messed up that defrost line thing and defrosting stopping working properly afterward.

Now I bought honda accord 3 wks ago. I paid $600 to dealer(which is 2-3 times more expensive that outside shop) to have it tinted thinking they would do better job. But, after tinting, my car started making annoying rattling noise when driving. I brought the car to service department and it turned out tint on rear windshield was peeling off from bottom and making that noise. They said they have to peel is off and do it all over. But, the tinting tech is not there everyday and I have to wait. They gave me option to just come back when tech comes. But, i decided to leave my car there. So, it has been like 3 wks since I purchased the car and my car is still in the dealer.

Is it common? I thought tinting is commonly done properly and what happened to my mom is exception but it seems it is not. Is tinting that complicated and technique sensitive? Since they have to peel it off, will that most likely mess up defroster on rear windshield? I regret that I decided to put tinting.

I think it comes down to the skill of the individual tech/installer. I had side & rear windows tinted on a new 1985 car… Drove it in all kinds of climates for 7 years and there was never a bubble, ripple, peeling, clouding or wear. Had the next car done at the same shop and had problems within 2 months that required them re-doing the job… They were able to re-do the back window without harming the defroster grid.

It's a skill, and to be done right, patience is necessary. Also, one should not roll down their windows for at least a week so that the tint can "cure."

  • Will a car dealership work with me if I'm gonna lease a new car, while trading in the car I have, which has an outstanding loan against it? The car I have now has a loan against it which is worth more than the trade in value of the car by about $5000. If me and a family member were BOTH looking to lease a new car (so 2 new cars), does anyone know if a dealership will be working to work with me in any way? Also the cars looking to be leased are not high end or luxury cars, they d be coming from a dealership like Honda, Toyota, or Subaru.
  • How difficult is it to rebuild my Honda Rebel Motorcycle transmission? It is an 06 Honda CMX250. There are broken fork shards inside the transmission (possibly the engine) and I don't have the money to take it in or get a new bike. I have past experience rebuilding since I rebuilt one that's exactly the same as this. I'm patient and willing to take my time to make sure everything is done right. How long would it take to take my transmission off my motorcycle, open up and clean and replace whatever parts needed?
