Are BMW's really better then Toyota and Honda?
My dad drives Toyota. Two actually. A 2001 and a 2010 model. My sister used to have a 2001 model, but she was involved in an accident which totalled her car so now she drives a 2009 corolla. My dad bought every car himself.
My cousins, on the other hand, drives BMWs. He drives a 3 series and a 7 series. He is a mechanic, so he has driven a lot of cars and tells me that he highly recommends BMW. Like I said, he drives BMWs, he bought his wife one as well, he says they last him a lifetime, they are strong, reliable, and you works perfectly fine. And said if I drive a Japanese car on a windy day, the wind will bow the car around. Btw, insurance is cheaper for BMWs in my province as they have a stronger body than Japanese cars. Well according to an insurance agent I spoke too.
My dad says they are the best cars, but he takes his cars to the shop for service or repair every month.
Added (1). BTW my dad refers to Toyota being the best cars.
Yes BMW is a genius piece of engineering. Germans know how to make good cars lol
BMWs are nice-looking, for sure; but they are more expensive to insure, and more costly to repair, than a Toyota or a Honda, at least if you are in the US. If you live in an area with a high crime rate, or lots of car robberies, insurance will probably be higher for you. I don't know much about BMW reliability, but their handling is generally stiffer than any Honda or Toyota I've ever ridden in/driven.
Bottom line: A car is only as "good" as its owner. Are you fastidious about keeping the interior clean? How often do you take it for maintenance? Is the car garaged, or parked outside? Direct sun, or in the shade? There are many things to take into account when analyzing how well a car performs.
In my opinion, a Honda (or even a Toyota, though they've had problems in the past) would be better in terms of reliability - taken care of, they will run well over 180,000 miles - but as I said, I don't know exactly how dependable a BMW is. Of course, a dealership will always try to tell you what you want to hear, because they want to make the sale. If you do decide to get a BMW, make sure to have it checked out by a mechanic, if you're buying used. (Your cousin would also be a good person to go to about reliability of the brand.)
As far as an all around package, BMW is hard to beat. Quality engineering, aesthetics, and performance make them very well balanced. They aren't the best at any one thing, but very good at many things. BMWs are driver's cars and are wild fun for a car you can drive 365 days a year.
Toyotas are great cars and are very reliable, but they are dull to look at drive. They are more reliable than BMWs but have the soul of a toaster. That's why they don't appeal to me but appeal to many people who just want a reliable car.
"Best" is always going to be a matter of opinion based on what appeals to each individual driver.
BMWs are actually great cars. The M series is the more sporty one. Honda and Toyota is good too. It really depends on how well previous owners have cared for the car. Any car is a good reliable car as long as it was taken good care of.

- Nissan vs Hyundai vs Toyota vs Honda vs Scion. Which one is more reliable and a better purchase? Nissan vs. Hyundai vs. Toyota vs. Honda vs. Scion… Which one is more reliable and a better purchase?
- Is Toyota's D-4D really CRDI? Even a Honda 2.4 gasoline is more powerful than a Toyota 2.5 turbodiesel. Honda K24 185 hp 220 Nm Toyota 2KD-FTV 101 hp 200 Nm It is like an old turbocharged non CRDI engine from the 80's. The fact is that it is from the 2000s. Engines in the 2000s were much more powerful than that. And also, who would sell a mid-size SUV with 101 horsepower only in 2006?
- Is Toyota more reliable then Honda? I want to buy a much newer model (2014-2016) and i want to know from experience which one is gonna last longer?
- Are European cars (Audi, BMW, Volkswagen) as reliable as a Toyota, Honda or Mazda? Just curious. What's your experience with European cars as opposed to Japanese manufactured cars?
