Burning Excessive Oil, Bad PCV?

I recently bought an 2005 2.4 Honda Accord with 132k miles. Everything on the car is well tooken care of except burning oil. Now I did some research and said it could be a bad pcv valve. I have no leaking oil or oil in the intake and the throttle body. I put a piece of paper over the exhaust for a minute, nothing on the paper. The engine light is on saying a bad o2 sensor, replaced that and the engine light is still on. This is really confusing me and putting me in a loop. As they say there's always a reason someone sells a car. Hopefully mine doesn't have blow by or anything.

It was 2-3 bucks and just takes 2-3 minutes on a 98 chevy blazer. I've heard changing it annually can boost gas mileage by 2mpg. Mine was old and looked like oil had leaked into it. As for the engine light, i believe codes show and don't disappear for like 50 miles after the problem stops triggering. You can get an obd2 scanner for $15-$30 online or go by an autozone and get your codes checked for free (except in CA). You can get them cleared and if the light doesn't show up again you should be fine. Also, try adding a can of seafoam to 8 gallons of gas for the o2 sensor, fuel injectors, and general maintenance every 3k miles. It sounds like you're losing alot of oil though, i'd be surprised if the pcv valve fixes the entire problem. I'd switch it out and see how it goes, but if it's leaking more than about 1 quart per 2k miles that's a problem in my opinion & i'd consider taking it to a trusted mechanic and have him check for leaks & get an estimate. I'd keep a close eye on your oil until you've got it under control. Then check it about once a month. Are you sure the car is burning oil? If you just bought the car, you might be boiling off water condension in the oil pan that has accumulated over the winter. How about posting the actual code instead of just telling us you replaced the bad 02 sensor? Listening to people with no clue is not the way to try and help that person. Burning excessive oil? What's excessive? The oil and filter should be replaced every 3,000 miles. How much does the oil level go down between that oil change interval? With 132,000 miles on the motor I wouldn't be surprised if you used almost a quart by then.

  • Is going from synthetic oil in my '03 HOnda Hybrid to regular oil bad? Over 100K miles, always used synthetic oil. Took the car to my mechanic to have brakes checked, and he thought the oil looked dirty so he drained it and put in regular oil. Now I'm concerned about my engine. Advice please? I do not know what kind of regular oil he put in.
  • Replacing PCV valve in a 2012 Civic? When replacing the PCV valve in a 2012 Honda Civic, is there any potential for oil to leak out while replacing it? Not sure if I can just unscrew the PCV and replace it, or if I need to do some sort of prep beforehand to prevent oil from escaping? Pic here: (PCV valve is "1").
  • Oil Change: Honda Motor Oil Vs Generic oil, does it make a difference? I have been getting oil changes with Honda motor oil for 15 years on my 2002 civic that now has 132K miles. If I switch to a generic $10 oil change garage shop will it still be ok? I know the Honda filters are better then the cheapest generic ones but how about the actual motor oil?
  • I felt dizzy and difficulty concentrating after driving my new car for two hours. Could excessive electrical wires be causing this? I felt these symptoms about three times directly after driving my 2000 Honda Civic. The car has about 10 or so electrical wires running above the driver's window and along the headliner for the two dome lights, sun roof, and rear speakers. These wires are very close to my head. I never felt this in my old car which only had one wire running above the driver's window. Does this sound unusual? Thank you very much!
