Do I have an oil leak? And where is it going?

I have a 2003 Honda Accord and recently my oil light will come on very often to the point where I was buying 4 quarts every two weeks. My starter locked up and I got it chnged and for a while I didn't have the oil problem again until today I checked my oil stick and it was bone dry. What do I do? Do I have a leak? I don't have a lot of extra money to throw at this.

There's no obvious oil stain overnight? I bet you have not looked. In any case, the oil is being burned in the combustion chambers because the piston rings. A seal around these metal parts are worn out. This is also ruining the catalytic converter, slowly, but for sure. That is where the oil is going, out the tailpipe. Speak with a mechanic for verification and an estimate as to repair. The engine is worn. Two quarts a WEEK? One whole gallon of motor oil PER MONTH? Yeah, this is a ruined engine and I'm surprised it has been running all of this time.

With the oil at the full mark, start the car and just let it idle while you look under it for the leak. Could be something simple like the crankshaft seal or just the oil filter isn't tight enough. They're easy to fix by yourself, without paying somebody. But it could be something more serious, that will require putting the car in the shop and put some money into it. It's better to spend $20 now rather than $2000 later.

Yes, based on your explaination, you definitely do have a leak if the oil went bone dry. There can be several issues that caused the leak. It can be crankshaft seal, gasket valve cover, oil pressure switch or transmission filters. Your best bet is to have it checked out by a mechanic. Pay as much as you can to get it repaired. The more you can pay, the better your car is repaired.

You have to be leaking oil to put 4 qts in every 2 weeks possible rear main seal you should notice it on the ground or covering engine parts or somewhere under the car

Sounds serious, if you have run your car dry on oil, you don't have long before your engine is trashed. You best bet for a 2003 car is to get a used engine swapped for your current engine.

Take it to Jiffy Lube (I'm assuming for in the US). They'll find it for you.

Sure sound like it to me… Half a quart every MONTH is too much…
