Belt, every 100k or so
All 2000 Honda Accords V6 or I4 have a cam belt. The cam belt and water pump should have been replace 4 years ago. The recommended replacement interval is every 105,000 miles or every 10 years whichever comes first. WARNING: This is an interference engine. If the belt breaks you will have severe internal engine damage. Make sure they also replace the water pump. This will cost you around $900 at a Honda dealer or $450 at an independent shop. Stop driving this car until you can have this done.

- I have a 2000 Honda Civic with 140,000 miles on it. Do you think the timing belt has been changed? I read somewhere that they are supposed to be changed at 105,000 miles, or seven years. My car has a lot more miles than that, and twice the age. Do you think the belt has been changed before? Or is it possible it's the original belt? Would the original have lasted this long?
