Honda Accord '03 Stutter/Shaking?
So this has been an ongoing problem for a few months, but seems to be getting worse recently. I have an automatic '03 accord (I believe it's an ex?) vin number is 1HGCM566X3A010867. It started off with a slight stutter, similar to the way a car acts when it's running out of gas. It seems to be happening more at lower speeds between 35 and 45 mph. From looking at the tach, it typically happens between 1500 and 2000 rpm. I've taken it to my local auto shop and they have no idea what it could be. There are no check engine lights currently, but about a month after I bought the car it did have a check engine light come on. The code was P-0420. After we cleared that code at auto zone, it hasn't come back on. So far, we've replaced the brakes and pads, spark plugs, cleaned the throttle body, and done an oil change. I have absolutely no idea what's going on. Any help would be greatly appreciated, let me know if you need more info.
Does the stutter occur when revving the engine when the car is in Park? If there's none, check the axles and get an alignment.
If there's, see a mechanic with a diagnostic scan tool. Could be a misfire not sufficient enough to cause a check engine light.
Well, the code should be self-explanatory. Your catalytic converter has packed it in. This can be caused by malfunctioning ignition coils or oxygen sensors. This causes stuttering and shaking that comes and goes.
None of the fixes you've described deal with the P-0420 code. Simply clearing it won't fix your car - it's trying to tell you something is wrong.
Sounds like you need new plugs
- I'm driving a 96 honda civic and my car has been shaking and overheating? I have check for leaks and everything is fine but i do have a rusted spark plug, i'm wondering if that may be the cause of shaking and excessive overheating to the point i'm driving with the heater on all the time. Can anyone let me know if the spark plug is the problem and if i replace this one rusted plug will the car drive back normally?
