Honda Accord 1999, should I trust it?

I'm looking into getting my very first car. I found a Honda Accord, they're selling t for 1,800$. There's 179k miles on it. They mentioned that the transmission will need work in the future. How bad is that? Is it completely fixable? How much would it cost? Other than that, should I trust this car.

1st of all, that's a lot of miles; 2nd - the seller can say anything they want; 3rd even if you do consider getting that junker, you would need to have a mechanic make a full inspection before purchase

Even though the 1999 is an all round solid and reliable vehicle the fact the seller has mentioned a transmission issue should be a major reg flag. Transmission repair could very easily run the cost you are paying for the vehicle itself.

That's an 1800 dollar car with a GOOD trans. More like 800. As is.

A rebuilt transmission will run 3 grand. Don't do it.

1999 was the second year of the Great Honda Automatic Transmission Debacle. You can call your local Honda dealer service department with the VIN to see if the transmission has been modified (see the first source). If not, the car is worth nothing. If it has… Well, see what the second source has to say.

NOPE.
