Honda Civic vs Honda Accord?

I'm currently a college student looking to buy a used car from the ages about 2010-2013 maybe depending on the price. I'm married and have a 6month old son and which would be better out of the two. I'm looking for a car thats really good on gas since i'm gonna be commuting a lot.

I read a lot of peoples answers on previous and people were mainly talking about looks. I know the current year that accord has better mpg, but i'm not sure about the older versions.

Please answer from personal experiences you had with either of these cars

I would go with the Accord. The Civic is a nice car, but the Accord is safer, has a lot more power, and still gets very good mileage. I was shopping for a Civic for my kid. We test drove a 2010, and I couldn't get over how loud and underpowered it was. I drove a Mazda 3 the same day; much more fun to drive, and much quieter. The Civic gets better mileage, but that's about it.
I've got an 06 Accord coupe, 6 speed manual with a 244 HP 6 cylinder. I drive pretty fast, m mostly highway, and I get 30 MPG pretty much all the time. The 4 cylinder models get slightly better mileage.
The new 6 cylinder models are up over 270 HP, but you only get about 25 MPG in them.

I would cross shop the Accord with the Camry, and perhaps even a Legacy. The Legacy won't get as good of mileage, but they are also very safe, and if you live in a snowy area, they are fantastic.

Both cars are very good. The biggest difference is the size of the car. The Civic is a small sedan, the Accord is a Midsize sedan.

The smaller car will cost less to buy and own. Insurance is cheaper and fuel costs will be lower. The maintenance will be the same for both.
The Accord will be more comfortable, it will also have more interior room.
Test drive them both and decide which car you like the most. Decide which one meets your family needs the best. Decide which one meets your budget.

If I were you a Civic sounds perfect. The Accord is a really nice car but buy it being bigger it will be a little less efficient on gas. Also parking a bigger car in urban traffic areas may be more tricky. My mom has a 2012 Civic and I'm quite surprised how roomy the back seat is. It held four adults comfortably. Compared to my Ford Focus the cars are the same size on the outside but the Civic has a lot of interior room.

The civic is smaller and less nice. I had thought they had slightly better mpg but I haven't kept up with it in recent years

Both are good looking nice featured sedan cars. The biggest difference is the price, because Accord price is so high to Civic.
