Honda dealership start engine without oil?
I took my 2013 honda accord to honda dealership. The technician admitted that he started the engine without putting oil. Stop the engine and fill it with oil. Came home realize the oil was kind of brown. Went back to dealership they flush the oil and the color is now clear. What happen to my engine and what should the dealership offer me inretun?
Wow, big mistake. The key issue is how long it ran? 15 seconds or a minute+ ? Make sure you take notepad and write down all the details of the conversation, time, names, where you were in the shop, who was working next to him, etc.
I would also try to note if guys are using their phones, ie do you see a tech looking at his phone or texting, if so that is what happened, he got distracted.
The issue is that if there was some excessive wear on some part will that not manifest itself for years?
Then if they take the engine apart to check for some wear, that carries risk as you may be taking an engine apart for no reason.
Oil was kinda of brown? That is odd, did he also forget to replace the filter?
What to ask for, that is difficult. Really the key is to find out if any damage was caused, that is key. How long did it run, you will need to be able to talk to the other techs in the area. Hopefully they will not lie or be told to lie. I'm sure the guy said, OH Shucks, there's no oil in the car. If the car stalled or there was some burning smell, smoke, etc, that may have damaged a cam shaft, maybe the oil pump is damage, they are not supposed to run dry? Get an expert opinion on these topics.
Find an independent shop with a honda master mechanic, get them to give you a written opinion.
And you may need to consult an attorney. The concern is the dealership is going to do what they do EVERY single day, keep that in mind, minimize the customer issues, it is nothing. OK then extend the warranty two years for any core engine problems. No we can't do that. But I though you just said there's no risk and nothing to worry about, so extending the warranty is NO risk for Honda.
You don't need any info on anything because all you will get is maybe a free oil change/rotate and a sorry if that. Your oil being brown just after an oil change is a sign that you don't change your oil at the 3k service interval. The brown color oil is the left overs inside the engine that doesn't get drained; so when the engine cycles, the new oil picks it up. Yes running a motor with no oil is bad for it, but won't destroy it instantly. The tech may get in trouble, but the service department has more worries than a car being started without oil. If you complain, service advisors won't like dealing with you but will have to
