How much can I sell car for and to whom?

It's a 02 Honda Accord 280k miles, transmission needs replacing, body condition fair, salvage title and needs other major repairs. I have done recent repairs and all tires are relatively newer (recently replaced) so I know it's junk but I would like to get some money back from something.

Ring your local scrap yard and see how much they will charge you to tow it away. If it's still drivable and roadworthy drive it to the scrap yard and save the towage charge. You should get scrap value minus any environmental fees.

Hi unfortunately this is going to be a total loss situation. Unless the snap yard offers money for it.

Sell as parts, you won't get much more than scrap value otherwise.

You could try donating it to a local Vo-Tech School. Then claim it as a write off on your taxes. You could part it out on craigslist. That would take work on your part.

Put it into a car auction with no reserve. Someone will buy it.

You need to find a "greater fool" as they say in the pyramid-scheme business. The new buyer must have tremendous faith in his ability to pluck pearls from pigsties. More faith than your own dwindling amount.

Other than that? Scrap-yard time, unless you want to try parting it out yourself.

Ebay. $200 offer gets it.

Last time I checked, the local car recycling center was paying $150/ton for scrap vehicles. Your hunk of metal is about 1 1/2 tons.

Craigslist-if you live anywhere near the country maybe you can sell it to a too young to drive teenager for 100 bucks who will tear it apart or run it in a field.

  • Should I sell my car and invest the money? I have 2 cars. A 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse and an 2006 Honda S2000. I'm thinking of selling the Honda and getting 12-15k for it. Then investing that money. I have a friend who builds and flips houses. He said if I invest he'll give me a good return on it when they sell. I forgot the percentage he said, but it was higher than doing a cd or anything like that. I like my car, but I only drive that one once a week or so. Should I try and sell it and use it to make more money?
