How to diagnose engine rattle 2003 Honda Accord 3.0?

My fiancé recently purchased this car used with 118k miles. It seemed to check out fine when she got it. When the temperature dropped below 0 I noticed a weird rattling under the hood. The car is now at 120k miles. The oil levels are good. I checked the belt system but I'm not 100% sure the sound is coming from there because its not a typical "squeal" or "chirp" sound. It sounds more like a metallic rattling noise coming from the motor. Is there any way to diagnose this problem?

  • Motorcycle cam chain rattle? I have a 2008 Honda XR 125 L-6 and the engine rattles slightly at idle. It isn't very consistant and completely goes away when i slowly release the clutch to biting point. Anyone know what it is? Is it the cam chain?
