What year/model? Freon (r-12) is for older cars, and is actually illegal now and is replaced by R134a.
You may have other issues with the compressor, evaporator, receiver etc.
If recharging did not fix it, then for sure there's/are other issues which require professional diagnostics to pin point the problem.
Then the condenser is shot, big MONEY.
