You certainly would run the risk of power steering failure if you do not repair the leak. In all likelihood you simply need a hose replacement. It is not a very complected or expensive repair.
- Does power steering fluid get hot if the car is just running and the steering isn't being used? If the pump is just spinning, recirculating fluid and nothing else… Would it still get hot? I had to bypass the pump from the rack and have the fluid recirculate. Would the pump get hot from just spinning? I know 8th gen Honda's don't have a cooler for the power steering anyways.
- Power steering fluid leaking from the base of the steering column? I have a 2002 Honda Civic and I noticed that there's power steering fluid leaking at the base of the steering column. I can't find anything about it online and don't want to take it to a mechanic if its something that I can figure out. Could this be the rack and pinion? Or is it just something simple? Anybody dealt with this issue before?
- Honda Civic 1999 power steering leaking? I realized my power steering is leaking but I'm not sure where from. I'm assuming it's my rack and pinion. So i ended up taking it to a mechanic and he said it's not my rack and pinion it's just my inner tie rods. But I'm questioning if he even knows what he's talking about. I have a Honda Civic 1999.
- What power steering fluid is compatible with a Honda Accord 2005? I know you need Honda specific power steering liquid, but aside from Honda's P/S fluid, are there any other brands that have P/S fluid that works?
