Is the creaking noise in my car to be of concern?
I drive a 98' Honda Accord EX. It is the US model and I've had it over a year and done hardly any maintenance on it. It makes a creaking noise sounding more like a groan than a squeak and it occurs when I turn the wheel at low speeds around town and my car also creaks as the suspension reacts to the road surface. Any idea what this might be? I don't know much about cars.
Added (1). It's not the power steering fluid, I already checked it
If I had to guess, which I do because I can't inspect the suspension myself, I'd say you likely have worn out control arm or strut bushings.
The most likely cause is one or more worn out suspension bushings. Not only can they cause the noises you describe but they can make the handling pretty sloppy. The fact it's also occurring when you steer mean the steering rack mounting bushings also need to be inspected. On Hondas it's common to find that if a wishbone bushing has failed then you have to replace the entire wishbone due to the bushing not being a separately replaceable part. The part can be very expensive but there are third-party alternatives at about half the price.
Hondas may be reliable, but they're not maintenance-free. Look after your car and it will look after you.
The first thing to do is to check your power steering fluid level. If it's low you'll hear a kind of growing sound when you turn at low speeds.
Ball joints or sway bar bushings need replacement.
The squeaking noise yo hear when driving over bumps is probably dry or worn suspension bushes. The noise you hear when turning at slow speed is your your CV joints, eventually they will need replacement. Seeing your car is so old you need to decide if it is worth it to replace these parts. If you can put up with the noise your car will keep going for ages
- Hit a pothole, car makes scratching noise on bumps? I hit a pothole going about 50 mph on a highway entrance ramp. Car drives fine but on any sort of bump/dip in the road, the car makes a scratching/grinding noise from the left front tire (the tire that hit the pothole). It's an 05 Honda pilot, not lowered. What do y'all think it might be?
- We have a 2006 Honda CBR. When you drive it, there's a loud whirring noise coming the back underneath side. What could cause that noise? The noise is situated around a CV boot on the left underneath side where the differential connects to the middle.
- Why is my car creaking while turning and accelerating? I have a 2007 Honda Civic, which has been otherwise perfect except for one thing: every time I accelerate from a stopped position and turn the wheel right or left, It will make a creaking/clicking noise for a couple seconds until it gets up to speed. It drives and turns perfectly fine after that. Why is my car doing this?
- What can be causing this noise in my car? I have a 2008 honda civic si, when i make sharp turns at a decent speed i hear a noise of metal that seems to be grinding. Sometimes while I'm just cruising i hear it as well, and it SOUNDS as if its coming from the wheels, not the engine. Also, one time, there was a HORRIBLE noise that came from my right tire that sounded like metal was making FULL contact with my break disc, but my breaks are still good. Any idea what this could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
