Problem with 1999 Honda Accord Rear Brake?
We heard a grind in our 1999 Honda Accord from one of the rear brakes. The brake pad had worn through on one side causing the rotor to be ground down. The thing is that it only happened on one side of the car, that is on one wheel, and only one side of the rotor was being worn down. The other side looks ok. It seems that there's some problem with the brake itself, causing one side of the brake to clamp down on the rotor more than it should. Does anyone know what this problem might be?
TAKE THE CAR TO A MECHANIC BEFORE YOU KILL YOURSELF.
Sounds like your caliper is old and starting to seize up, seems like time to replce it. If a new caliper is out of your price range, reconditioned calipers aren't overly expensive & function as good as new.
Cool
Uneven wear is from a binding caliper. It could be the pad bound in the caliper or the piston bound in the caliper. When you remove the pads, you have to retract and move the caliper, so it is easy to tell which is the problem. You never replace calipers, as they are always easy to rebuilt. You can use the brake pedal to pop the piston out, clean it, replace seals, and push it back in with some brake lube. A large C clamp or channel lock pliers is necessary.
- I have a problem with the iginition key on my 1999 Honda Accord? When turning the key in the ignition to start it up, it'll turn on but when it's released it will shut off the car. It stays on if you hold the key as well, then shuts off when it's released.
- How to repair a rounded bolt head on rear brake caliper in a tight space? 1996 Honda Accord? I was replacing by brake pads on my 1996 Honda Accord when I noticed the top bolt on the caliper was rounded off. It is a 12mm bolt and there's little to no space to deal with this. I'm not sure how to get it off since it is in such a tight spot with no room to really do much. Any suggestions on how to remove this stubborn thing?
- Honda 1999 accord problem? Had a rebuilt transmission from japan put in 3 months ago now check engine light on and d4 light blinks on dash. But doesn't read any codes. Found out the transmission guy put the original selonoids on the car cuz the other ones that came with the trans didn't fit could that be the problem? If I change the selonoids will the light stop blinking?
