Steam coming from 2000 Honda Accord 4cyl engine bay?
When I got home after a drive around town today, I noticed a slight scent coming from my air vents (AC was NOT being used). After parking, I discovered a light but noticeably steam was coming out of the grill/hood area, checked the engine but could not find an apparent source. Looked underneath the car, and the steam appeared to be emitting from the portion of the exhaust underneath the engine, suggesting fluids leaking onto the exhaust? Fluid/coolant levels are all normal, engine temp gage is reading normally, and there are no other symptoms. Drove again and couldn't replicate the issue. Any thoughts?
Added (1). Scent didn't match up with descriptions of failed heater core smells, and there aren't really any other telltale heater core failure symptoms
"I noticed a slight scent coming from my air vents".
Nine of ten times when this is experienced it is due to heater core failure.
A scent from the air vents could mean the heater core is leaking.
Heater core yes. But if you don't need the heater just bypass it.
YOU HAVE A COOLANT LEAK, WHEN IT COOL OFF FILL IT WITH COOLANT AND TAKE TO A SHOP
Did you turn on the HEAT? If you smell ANTI-FREEZE (sweet sweet smell)… Might have an issue.
I think you def have a coolant leak, maybe a pinhole leak that sprays a mist of coolant onto the hot exhaust or engine. Take it to a shop for a pressure test to locate the source. You may have a hose, radiator or welch plug about to cry Sayonara.
- Mechanic said he rebuilt the engine, smoke coming out of engine, could it be the grease burning off? The mechanic said he rebuilt the engine to my 1974 Honda CB550 I bought from him. Said he rebuilt the engine and is in perfect running condition. He has many bikes lying around and seems as if he is a hobbyist for bikes. He told me that he basically greased up a lot of parts of the motor and it is burning the grease off. The next oil change I do should remove the excess grease.
- If I drop something into the engine bay, can I unscrew the bottom of the car to get it? I dropped something into the engine bay and can hear it landed onto the bottom. On the bottom of the car is a metal sheet. I can't squeeze under my car, but I can feel there are screws down there. Do you think I can unscrew one side of the metal sheet (the side closest to the front bumper), bend open the metal sheet slightly, and poke a stick into it to retrieve what I dropped? I have a 2017 Honda CR-V.
- Supercharger on a 2002 Honda Accord 5 speed 4cyl 0 to 60 time? Thinking about putting a supercharger in my 2002 Honda Accord 4 cylinder. If the 0 to 60 time is about 9 sec now what can I expect after? It has only 40000 miles it can it handle a supercharger. And how many more miles can I expect out of it? Money's not an issue. And don't want another car.
- Steam coming from Under Hood (2000 honda accord LX). What is the name of this hose that seems to be cracked? So I was driving and saw steam/my car was overheating and I parked. Coolant reservoir was empty so I filled it, and it looked like there's a crack in the hose in the photo in the link. Its not a radiator hose but I'm not sure what it is, hopefully it isn't a hard fix. Thanks
