TIMING BELT and STEERING PUMP FOR HONDA?

I need a new steering pump, timing belt and engine mounts. 2004 Honda accord v6 3.0
Dealer quoted $2100
Local mech $780
Midas $1000
Express lube $1800
I need help on what to do and which to go with. Shipping the car to puerto rico

I'd go with Midas. Work should have a warranty and they have shops in a ton of places. Express is not really that kind of service center. Dealer is insane, but that is about right for a dealer. Local guy is great if you assume you saved enough to have it done again if it's wrong.

If you've heard go things about local mech, go for it. Midas is a rip off as well as the others. People say it's top notch service but youy're paying for the fact they are a chain and their advertising. For example, Most shops in my area charge $100 per hour labor, but the local mechanic around the corner charges $60 per hour for labor. Also, he uses OEM and aftermarket parts, just like everyone else (minus the dealer). Also, the local shop has warranty of 6 months or 1 year, depending on what is being done. 3 year on engine rebuilds. People have this idea that working on a car is something difficult. I taught myself and let me tell you, a 2004 Accord is not hard to work on. I would recommend the local guy for routine maintenance/wear and tear items like these. That's a good price, and if he's good, you won't be coming back for the same issue anyway. Just make sure that $780 includes repalcing the water pump and seals when they are changing the timing belt. That might be the difference in prices between the local guy and Midas. Midas isn't bad (eventhough I have had a bad experience witht hem, it doesn't reflect everyone), but they are rather expensive too.

Stay away from the chain operated shops. They're a rip off. Find a good independent mechanic and make sure they use pro grade parts. There's a lot of really cheap parts out there and the chains use those parts to increase profits. But they don't last.
