What kind of Power Steering fluid should I use for a 2002 Honda Accord?
I recently purchased a 2002 LX Honda Accord as my first car. We brought it to our local mechanic and he said I have absolutely no Power steering fluid and need some As soon as possible. Any suggestions for what brand/make of fluid I should use? Any info would help, thank you!
It says right on the cap what kind of fluid to use.
Check the manual. No manual, call the dealer, google it, go to an auto parts store and they can look it up.
Use only power steering fluid that specifically says it is for Honda vehicles. I know NAPA has an aftermarket fluid that is okay and I suspect other stores do too. Low fluid is better than wrong fluid in Honda P/S systems - at least no fluid will only damage the pump instead of the pump and rack.
- What kind of power steering fluid? I have a 05 Hyundai elantra and the power steering fluid is red. Dark red, and a friend of mine told me to use Honda fluid in it when I replace it, I siphoned some out and put a bit of Honda fluid it but the Honda fluid is clear, is this a problem? And what kind of fluid should I use? He said the Honda fluid lubricates the system better than a generic multipurpose fluid. Its probly 1/2 Honda fluid now mixed with the old fluid.
- Power steering fluid keeps going below minimum level in my 2015 Honda Pilot? Hi, I drive a 2015 Honda Pilot which I bought in June of this year. Since then, I've had to refill power steering fluid 3 times because it falls below minimum level after a short period. I have not seen any fluid drops on the ground. I will bring the car to the dealership but is there anything I can do besides refilling the fluid again, so I don't have to make tbe trip to the dealership?
- Does power steering fluid get hot if the car is just running and the steering isn't being used? If the pump is just spinning, recirculating fluid and nothing else… Would it still get hot? I had to bypass the pump from the rack and have the fluid recirculate. Would the pump get hot from just spinning? I know 8th gen Honda's don't have a cooler for the power steering anyways.
- What would cause power steering fluid to leak out of an input shaft seal? Would replacing the seal fix this issue? I don't see why fluid is even entering the steering gear/shaft area anyways. I thought it doesn't. 2008 Honda Civic coupe
