Buying a used car with 180k bad idea?
I'm looking to find a reliable car in the 2k price range & have came across a really cute 99 honda passport with 180k miles on it. The listing said the car has a new starter, timing belt, crank and cam seals, water pump, ac serviced, new tires but still needs an egr valve. Does this sound like a lemon or what? I'm just hesitant cuz i don't want something to break down on me or have to put a lot of money/work into
Added (1). I didn't mean lemon. Like that. I mean like with all those new parts.( i know its good that they've been fixed) but is that a sign that things are starting to go wrong, like if one thing leads to another or am i just overthinking this? & yes you're right i don't know a lot about cars.
That's about what you're going to find in the $2k range. I always suggest that you spend $100 and have an independent mechanic check it out. At least then you will have a much better idea of the mechanical condition. The thing is, most $2k car sellers will not be too willing to let you take it to the mechanic, but in never hurts to ask. Just remember, with ANY used car it could last you 10 years or 10 miles.
Old cars means always having to invest money in it. Trust me, don't
How is it a lemon? It is a 99, meaning it has lasted 16 years.
Lemons break down within the first 2 years from NEW!
Cars should last easy 20 years.
But you know nothing about used cars, so either find a mechanic to evaluate it for you or buy new.
Thats such a good deal for 2000$
I'm a car salesman
Don't listen to Osky. He must be a TERRIBLE car salesman.
That vehicle is an Isuzu Rodeo. One of the worst quality SUV's ever made. My dealership has a Honda franchise and HAD an Isuzu franchise. My owner would not even let us take either the Rodeo or Passport in on trade because they were nothing but problems. Terrible cars.

- Would it be, a bad idea for me to try and fix a blown head gasket? Its for a honda. Stock d16 aftermarket rims and is 1500 with a blown head gasket. My dad is the best honda mechanic in my town. He would be guiding me through it. Also the car had 137k miles and good paint. How much would it be worth if it was fixed?
- Will my car make it cross country? Can anyone who knows about cars tell me if this is a bad idea? I want to drive to colorado to stay for a few weeks and don't want to fly it will be about.a 1300 mile journey I have a 2002 Honda oddessey tht has 242k miles on it but its been babied its whole life and has a few new parts including a new transmission its seems to drive fine I was just wondering if that seems like a stupid or risky idea to drive it that far
- Is it a bad idea for me to refinance my original Honda auto loan? My credit has improved over the last 6 months and I would like to refinance in another 6 months or so once I feel more comfortable with my score. BUT is this a bad idea? Will Honda scold me for this when I go to the Service dept for maintenance? Or will other future lenders see me as some sort of unreliable consumer moving forward? I worry about this. Any advice would be great and much appreciated!
- Is buying a 12 year old car a bad idea? So I have 4 thousand dollars saved up and found a 07 Honda for sale with 145,000 miles. Should I buy or put my money into something newer? ok I was wanting to buy a car and not have a monthly payment but I don't want to waste my money. It took me a year and a half to save this
