2000 Honda Civic Ex grinds when shifting into reverse, is this normal?
The other day when I was parked on an incline I noticed my reverse gear grinded. I was in neutral and slowly rolling backwards when I tried to go into reverse. I repeated the action about twice with the same thing happening. It wasn't until I pressed the brake and came to a complete stop that I was able to shift into reverse smoothly. Previously the reverse gear had grinded on my about twice in the span of a couple of weeks when I was at a complete stop. I've read that its somewhat "normal" for reverse to grind ever so often but I'm not fully convinced. So am I not supposed to go from neutral to reverse if I'm rolling backwards?
Hi so you have a 14 year old car. What do you think it is going to do drive like new. Well buddy it has now usually done a few thousand miles and is nearer to the scarp yard than it was 6 years ago when it's life expectancy ran out. Yes the modern car has a life expectancy of just 8 years beyond which it is just luck.
- Resistance when shifting from park to reverse? Automatic trans honda? There's resistance when shifting from park to reverse all the drive gears work fine shift good what could be the problem probably not the trans since when put In reverse it works fine help? It's hard basically to shift from park to reverse you have to fight it
- My 1999 manual honda prelude does not shift into 5th gear or reverse smoothly? My gears are smooth from 1-4 but then takes a lot of effort to go to 5th or reverse. Also when you get out of 5th or reverse it doesn't go straight into neutral like a normal manual car. They still work but it is very annoying that i have to push it into the gears and pull them out. What could the issue be? Transmission? Shift box? I plan on changing to a short throw shifter in the future.
- Will starter from an automatic 2000 Honda civic LX fit on a automatic 2000 Honda civic HX? The lx is a 5 gear transmission and the hx is a CVT transmission. With the starter fit? Mine went out on my hx
- Clunk every time I shift into reverse? I have a 2003 Acura RSX w/ 135000 miles. Every time I shift into reverse I hear a loud clunk I sometimes hear it but more faintly when it shifts to 2nd gear. The transmission shifts smoothly and I don't hear and grinding or any other abnormal sounds besides that clunk. What could the issue be? BTW honda/acura vehicles don't have ujoints since iv'e been told before it might be that.
