2001 Honda Civic ex overheating?

My car overheats but I have a question when I turn on the hot heater it's not for a while then the car starts to get hot then the heater goes cold

You have an air pocket in the cooling system either due to a leak or a bad head gasket. When you over heat and turn the heater in the car on it just adds more cool coolant to the system circulation which brings the temperature down briefly. The heat goes cold because the air pocket moves to the heater core. Better hope you haven't been jaging around wondering why it's doing that for too long or you've already blown the head gasket.

  • Why is my 1998 Honda civic lx still overheating? I've replaced the thermostat, water pump, timing belt, flushed the radiator and done a coolant test to check for gasses and all is good. The fan is wire up so it automatically comes on when ignition is turned on and is blowing the correct way. Do I need to try a new radiator cap or radiator? Engine light is on but it's for a 02 sensor. Any help is appreciated.
  • I'm driving a 96 honda civic and my car has been shaking and overheating? I have check for leaks and everything is fine but i do have a rusted spark plug, i'm wondering if that may be the cause of shaking and excessive overheating to the point i'm driving with the heater on all the time. Can anyone let me know if the spark plug is the problem and if i replace this one rusted plug will the car drive back normally?
  • My 2001 Honda Civic is overheating and I can't figure out why? I have replaced the radiator cap, coolant reservoir, and thermostat. Also, I check the fans at various times and everytime they are running fine. Lastly, I'm not sure if this information helps, but I live in southern Louisiana where it is almost always hot. I'm a poor 25 year old female college student and I have no idea what else to do.
