Car shut off on me while driving?
So prior before shutting off a few days earlier it was hesitating to start. It did this twice where I had to turn the key and then release it and try and again, until it fired right up. It was the first day of cold weather and I believe it was -5.
Last night I was driving and the car shut off as I was in third gear cruising at about 60 kms.
I pulled over and then it started right back up again BUT I noticed my battery light flashing, and then once it started the battery light disappeared. I messaged my step dad and he told me to clean the clutch sensor, so I'm thinking about trying that. But that wouldn't explain why the light was on flashed? He then said it could be the alternator but that wouldn't make sense because chances are it wouldn't have started back up again. Anyone have an idea on what this could be? The car is an 04 Honda Civic if that helps.
Have you noticed before that your battery light would come on when the engine wasn't running? Along with other lights if you took the time to notice. Hesitating to start and stalling while running down the road and without a engine light coming on I'd say it is time to do a fuel pressure test. It could be the pump or the relay. It has nothing to do with the clutch sensor, what ever that is, I though that was a switch.
We had a similar problem with our Ford Mondeo. The engine just cut out at any speed, including 70mph on a dual carriageway and the engine management light flashed. After a lot of investigation, including a new alternator (didn't cure the problem) it was traced to the Cam Sensor. After this sensor was replaced we've had no more problems
- Why is my Honda Civic shutting off while driving? I have a 2000 Honda Civic Ex… Recently I was driving and in the middle of driving, my car shuts off, all my gauges go down and took a while to crank back up. My battery light turned on, so I replaced the battery, thought maybe the battery was old and needed changing, thought maybe that was it. Well it didn't help, it still will shut off and the battery light is still on. Could it be the altinator? Suggestions are much appreciated.
- My car cuts off while driving? My 2000 Honda Civic ex will cut off on me in the middle of driving. Right before it cuts off all the interior lights will flicker. I've checked the connection on the battery and still doing it.
- What's happens to a car if you shut off the engine while you're stepping on the gas pedal? I have this 2002 Honda Accord I was playing around with that got sold for scrap. I was wondering what would happen if I held the gas pedal at about 4,000 RPMs and then proceed to shutoff the car while holding it at 4,000 rpms. I tried this, nothing bad seemed to have happened. The engine rpms quickly climbed down and the engine shut off like it should. I started the car again and everything seemed normal. Does this actually harm anything if you do this?
- Why does my car keep turning off while driving? I drive a 2002 Honda Accord coupe 6 cylinder & lately it's been turning off while I'm driving. The car just turns off & I always have to end up pulling over. When the car turns off, all the lights on the dash turn on including the TCS lights, brake light, door open lights, etc. When I try to start it back up it just tries to but doesn't. I usually wait about 5 minutes & it ll start again but it's been happening way more often now.
