Honda Civic having a hard time warming up?
I drive a 2008 Civic LX and when its 10 degrees fahrenheit or colder the engine has to sit about 5-10 minutes warming up! If I wait just several minutes the car won't fully warm up til about 20-25 minutes later driving at 35-60mph. ALSO the car oftentimes gets colder, say I'm coasting or just driving 45 through town the temp gauge loses "temperature". Is there anything to worry about? My Volkswagen always warmed up within a few miles and stayed "warm".
If the coolant level is too low, the temperature sensor won't have anything to read, it can also make the temperature guage swing around because the coolant is low and sloshing around giving intermittent readings. What's the coolant level look like? ITs possible for the resivoir to be full but the radiator to be very low. Also, do you ever see something like whispy vapors or smoke coming from the front of the car? That would indicate a coolant leak.
ITs just not possible for the car not to have reached temp in that timespan. Something is wonky with the system that measures the temperature and the other components of the cooling system involved with that. It could be a lot of things such as bad thermostat or low coolant or possibly air in the system.
You may have1 of 2 problems. Bad thermostat or low on coolant. Have it checked out.
The oil is too cold to allow the engine to turn over properly.
Install a block heater.
Bad thermostat
- I have a 2000 Honda civic si. I'm having brake problems? I have replaced the calipers, rotors, and pads. I have also replaced the master slave cylinder. The brakes do work and I can bring the car to a stop. But the pedal is almost to the floor until the pads make contact with the rotor. I bled the master cylinder and brakes correctly. Fluid comes out of all bleeders so that is not the issue. Does anyone have any ideas?

- 2005 honda civic went from having heat only when you are driving to having no heat? Have replaced thermostat twice, replaced the water pump, the heater core and the low idle valve. The system has been flushed ever time. It's went from having heat when you moving to having no heat at all.
