How to talk down private seller price?

When the car is worth significantly less than they're selling it for. Can I talk a car down $2,000? It's a 2008 Honda Civic with 130K miles on it and the seller has a price of $6,800. You know that after comparing quotes it's not worth nearly that much, especially with that many miles.

I doubt you'd be able to get the seller to take nearly 70% less than they are asking.

Make an offer and substantiate your offer with info.

Make an offer you think is reasonable - if they don't accept go elsewhere

Plug in the info at http://www.kbb.com/...ww.kbb.com and show the results to the seller. If they don't accept your offer, move on.

Make an offer that you think is fair to the seller. If he or she says no, offer your phone number to the seller and ask him/her to give you a call if he/she changes their mind.

Make the seller an offer that you know is fair for a car with this many miles. Explain why your offer is fair and reasonable. If he doesn't accept, he's being unreasonable and it's time to walk away.

Make him an offer based on what YOU think the car is worth and what you can realistically afford to spend. The worst thing he can say is NO. If he does, move on. There are 25 other Honda Civics for sale within 50 miles of your house.

Make an offer you can live with. If he doesn't accept, leave. If you aren't prepared to walk away, the seller already owns you. Especially car dealers.
