Misfiring car? Not sure what to do next?

I went to autozone and then ran a test on the code reader. I got back the P0303 or whichever one is the third coil. I tested the coil by pulling each cover off and testing the difference of each on the engines sound, no difference. So now I think it might be the spark plug on the third coil position? The car is a 2003 honda civic with 140k on it. Spark plugs haven't been changed as far as I know, bought this car used.

What do you think?

Thanks

Added (1). What I meant was that each time I removed a cover I heard a difference, so I've crossed out the ignition coils as a culprit.

If you are not hearing a difference in engine speed/sound when you are "pulling each cover off" you aren't doing anything! If you disable a coil, the engine will skip. If you already have a skip, and disable a good cylinder, it will Really skip!

Spark plugs are cheap. Be sure to not crack them when installing (that happens when the plug socket is too shirt for the plug).

To further isolate, learn how to disable a coil (just unplug the electrical connector) and find which cylinder is skipping. If #3 skips, move that coil to #4 and see if the skip moves.

If the skip stays on #3 you have eliminated nearly all electrical issues (very slight possibility of computer trouble, very, very, very slight!). The other issues would be a serious vacuum leak enough to be causing a whistle, bad injector, or most likely low compression due to a burnt valve.

I'd agree, invest in new plugs anyway. That may or may not do the trick but it probably needs them.

Do the cheapest easiest things first (spark plugs would be on of those item especially if suspected).

Could be - maybe you will have to try it as it probably needs new plugs anyway

At 140.000 miles it needs more. Your mechanic/dealer will do it. YOU are clueless… If you diconect a coil. You will KNOW it. At least buy a 30 dollar shop manual. It will save you money and teach you something

  • Not sure what to get for my first car? So I'm a senior girl in high school who is about 5'4" and my parents are buying me a car for college. Now I can't get anything fancy like an audi or BMW, but I can get something like honda, hyundai, mazda, ford, etc. I want a car that is fuel efficient and looks good. I don't really want a muscle car or a super sporty car. I'm not sure what exactly what to get.
  • O3 honda cbr954rr, trying to find certain bolts- not sure what they're technically called? Looking for new ones and having trouble finding them online. Not sure how to word the search. Replacing head gasket. It's the main bolts that hold the head to the engine block. There's 10 of them.Talked to a honda dealer and they said its just called washer bolts but cost $75.+ tax through them. When i search washer bolts even adding engine, head, cylinder head etc. Still find nothing. Anyone know where or how to find them?
  • I have an eye on a few bikes, just not sure so I need some advice? My first VEHICLE was a Ninja Kawasaki 500r. I've been riding that since I was 16 and i'm now 20, so for four years. I've been looking at both a Ninja Kawasaki ZX -6r and a -10r. also looking at a Honda CBR1000RR. If you have any suggestions please comment. P.S. I'm looking for a brand new Motorcycle, I put way too much money into my current bike for what it's worth.
  • Help sold my car and not sure if safe? Sold my 1997 Honda to a man today for $$$. Problem is I just read on Virginias dmv site that I have to do a title transfer? Not sure if this is necessary or not. I got the bill of sale and made him sign the title. I have his address and number. I got my tags also. I have informed DMV of sale and insurance. Am I responsible if he never registers vehicle if he gets in accident?
