Problem with my Honda Civics engine?

Well we now know why the previous owner got rid of the car don't we. And the current owner doesn't seem to even check fluids until some light goes off on the dash, which by the way has nothing to do with your current problem. I would look to see why the electric fan is not working before you ruin what little you have left.

This all started about 5 days ago when my check engine light came on. When I did end up checking i noticed my engine oil was little less than half and real grimey, so I changed my oil. A few days later the check engine light is still on and my car is now overheating. I stopped at my friends house and then we proceeded to check the coolant. Which looked real low, and gross. As if the previous owner had neglected it. So i filled it with my coolant mix and no dice. My cars still overheating. Although I did the coolant thing yesterday and last night around midnight my check engine light went out… But now; today, I started my car and then the system supplement light had came on. Its still overheating, but dare I say it, it seems to be overheating less fast.

So what year is this Civic? Have you tried extracting the error codes to see what is causing these problems?
Hopefully you learned your lesson to check these things before you buy a used car or have a mechanic inspect it.

Check radiator fluid, coolant reservoir, radiator fan, fan relay switch, thermostat etc.
It will also be a good idea to give your car a Tune-up service.
