Should I still buy a car if the frame is a little bit damaged?

I came across a really good deal on 2009 Honda civic and the guy wants 5500 for it. It has 100,000 km on it. Everything is in reay great shape but he doesn't have it safetied because there's a tiny crack in the frame in the front. Under the fan. My friend is a welder and says he can fix that for me no problem and I'll be able to get it safetied. But I know a lot of people say If a car has frame damage you should stay away from it. I was hoping I could get some insight from you guys. Is it a stupid idea and why? Or could this work and why? It seems like to good a deal to pass up!

Yes you should buy it if it is just one little thing it would be a great buy your getting a great deal.

Frame cracks are always fatal. There are no approved repairs for a crack because the frame has been overstressed and will break other places. That is a parts car.

The frame holds the car together and will protect you in an accident. It's important.

Don't ever buy a car with a compromised frame. This guy is asking £5000 over what the car is worth, it's not a good deal.

That is not the frame across the front. Welding is an accepted repair. The part is called the, core support, the cost under $100 for part the labor can be as high as $1000. Many things are bolted to or running through it…
Run it by a body shop for an estimate, they may find more problems. If they don't have your friend fix it. If they do… You decide based on their findings during the free estimate. Had it been "frame" damage they can be straightened, welded or replaced. Unibody Frame repair/ replacement can be expensive, but properly equipped shops have been doing it since the 60's. Not buying or dealing with car that's had frame damage or repair is a personal choice. Based on misinformation and shoddy work. I've had hundreds done over the years… I've welded a few myself… But that Civics crack isn't even on the frame…

The price is good - about $800 below KBB.com. But I'm concerned about how the frame got cracked and the extent of the crack and maybe some other frame damage. They don't usually crack on their own although a friend of mine had a Bronco with a cracked frame at the steering gear mount. The car may have hit something, maybe a large rock. I guess the bottom line is how much risk are you willing to take on the car?

I'm stay away from that car!
