Why does my maintence reminder still show service code after an oil change?
I brought my car (Honda civic si 2014) into Honda dealership for a scheduled oil change and when I got my car back after about an hour I checked my oil life right away and it wasn't reset or anything. I thought Honda was supposed to reset it, so I did it myself.
Also after resetting my oil life, it shows a "B1" service code indicating to "change oil &filter". Is it possible that they didn't change it? Before the service I was arguing about them scratching my rim with a impact drill from prior service but they didn't wanna help me. I'm just curios cause it's annoying seeing the service code after it's been changed already. What should I do?
Hi best to find another honda dealer as that one needs reporting to Honda so advise the new dealer who was supposed to have serviced it.
Some dealers have truly rotten service departments, either because they are unable to get decent mechanics, or from poor management, or because they hope that screwing up your car will make you buy a new one.
Yes, we once had a dealer tell us they couldn't fix our 1992 truck (and needed to replace it) because it was too old, after we complained that they had not done the service we had requested and PAID for! That was ten years ago. We still have the truck and it now works perfectly. We now have it serviced by a good repair shop and never by a dealer.
I've owned cars for over 40 years, and have more than once taken a car in for warranty service and then discovered that the work was not done correctly, or that something else was broken. I think the dealers, in those cases, were scamming the automobile company by charging them for unnecessary warranty service.
I have found it worthwhile to locate good mechanics and use them exclusively for work. Also, I have not bought a new vehicle since 1992.
It's easy enough to check the condition of the oil - pull the dipstick out and wipe it on a clean paper towel a couple of times. If the oil's not light gold and is dark then they didn't change the oil. There's no easy way to tell if they changed the filter, kinda gotta take their word on that.
I wouldn't go back to that dealer if they are indifferent about damaging your wheels and are forgetting, intentionally or not, to reset the service reminder. It's their responsibility to not damage the vehicle (or come clean and pay for the damages if they do) and to reset that service reminder properly when they change the oil. If they're not doing that then I think you're right to wonder what else they're forgetting or cutting corners on. Know that it is not mandatory to have routine maintenance done at a Honda dealership, even if the car is still under warranty to keep the warranty intact. Given your poor experience with that dealership, I'd avoid going back.
- Flashing check engine light on 02 Honda Oddyssey after Valvoline oil change? Got an oil change at Valvoline, and next day check engine light began flashing. Car was running flawlessly before oil change. They suggested a new fuel filter, as mine was pretty rough. I declined. Got error codes of random misfire, as well as cylinder 1,2,4,6 misfire. Scanner at auto zone listed EGR valve as suggested part. Could this possibly be that the fuel filter is bad or was put back on incorrectly?
- Why could my 2000 Honda Civic show it's going to overheat I have coolant a new radiator a new radiator cap a new temp gauge switch and? A new thermostat head gasket is fine could it just need to flushed and a new water pump and timing belt

- Oil Change: Honda Motor Oil Vs Generic oil, does it make a difference? I have been getting oil changes with Honda motor oil for 15 years on my 2002 civic that now has 132K miles. If I switch to a generic $10 oil change garage shop will it still be ok? I know the Honda filters are better then the cheapest generic ones but how about the actual motor oil?
