Will my car need a new head unit and speakers?
My sister gave me her PPI 600 watt amp. It has 6 channels (not exactly sure what this means). I also received a sub that is a 12" Kicker in a box. I drive a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid with a stock touch screen navigation system. I have no idea how wiring a new sound system works. Will I need a new head unit? I don't think I can do that because there's a nav system. Will I need new speakers to accompany this new power? Pretty sure the speakers I have right now are super weak. How much would new speakers cost? I'm so lost. I appreciate any help! Thank you.
Added (1). I'd also like to add that I would have this sound system installed somewhere. I would not do it myself. I'm just wondering what I'm dealing with here.
Take the car and the equipment your sister gave you to a shop and see what they think (get a quote before they do anything).
You can install an amp w/o changing the stock head unit.
The issue is getting signal from the radio to the amp. IF the amp has high (speaker) level inputs you can do this by connecting (piggy-backing) speaker wires off the existing stock speaker wires which will then be connected to the amp's speaker level inputs.
If the amp doesn't have high/speaker level inputs you'd need to add a line output converter which connects in a similar fashion to the stock speaker wires, but it provides RCA outputs to connect to the amp.
The stock speakers may not be able to withstand the power of the amp, but we would need to know what model amp it is to make a reasonable speculation.
A decent pair of replacement speakers can usually be found in the $50 range.
The amp would need to be wired for power as well -- power, ground, remote turn-on, and the could be a little work involved to get speaker wires connected between the amp and speakers.
- Got a car, no life and wanna drive away to somewhere new and start a new life but how? I'm older, my parents are getting elderly. My sibling is in rehab and my family onlycares about him. I have no friends, no kids and i'm tired of living in my state for 35 years. Seeing the same ppl, same buildings, ugh. I just bought a new honda and honestly i just wanna get in my car and go. I have no money tho and only have a associate degree. What should i do? Apply to a college out of state? Just leave?
- Will a Honda head unit fit in a Mitsubishi? I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant. I recently purchased a Pioneer aftermarket head unit off of Amazon (1 DIN) and all the installation kits that I see at Pepboys, Autozone, etc are all for cars of makes with Honda/Acura, General Motors, etc. Will a Honda (same year) single DIN installation kit fit in my 03 galant? Or do I have to get a specific fitment for my car?
- 03 Honda Crv No AC: need freon or blown AC unit? Googled and I guess there's a huge problem with the AC unit in the 03 CRVS to explode and send fragments through the system, thus causing it to not work. Well my AC in my crv does not work, bought it from a used lot in the winter not knowing. When I turn the AC on it does not make any weird noises or anything, it just blows out warm air. It doesn't blow steaming hot but fan hot, if that makes sense. Could it just need a freon charge or could the system be kerput?
- Why won't my head unit turn on? I have a 1995 Honda Civic Hathcback. I just replaced my alternator and after i did that, my head unit will no longer turn on. The head unit itself still works, just not in my car, and none of my fuses are blown. My cigarette outlet still works and its on the same fuse as my head unit, which doesn't work. I didn't know if this was a common problem people have, but I can't figure out what's wrong with it.
