Are K&N filters worth it?

I have a 2006 Honda CR-V in need of a new filter and I have narrowed it down to two possible choices. Pretty much all I care about is a clean, dust free engine.

This is an actual Honda filter:

This is the corresponding K&N:

Does the K&N offer $60 worth of performance? It's a CR-V, so obviously I'm not racing, nor do I care about horsepower, but I use my car everyday for work so I want to keep my engine running as smoothly as possible for as long as possible. Does the K&N do this or does it just give more intake? Because I'm not spending the money if it doesn't filter any better than the stock filter.

Also if there's another manufacturer that makes a better product that will keep my engine cleaner and running longer please feel free to leave a product number or a link.

Does a K&N need to be oiled to perform correctly? That oil could contaminate the MAF sensor downstream and cause all kinds of problems. Without the oil, I believe K&N's actually filter worse than stock.

No.

The stock air filter is always better.
Can't believe people still believe the hype of K&N Filter + Tune = 10+ HP
It gives nothing.

  • Is a Honda Insight worth it? I'm thinking about buying a 2002 Insight, but are they any good? I don't know anyone with a hybrid car so are they dependable. And the whole gas + electricity thing how does that work. Do I have to plug it up overnight or put extra money into it to drive it. Forgive my ignorance about the matter.
  • Is a $20,000 Honda S2000 07 worth buying? This man I know is selling his Honda s2000 year 2007 for 20 grand. Is it worth buying? Everything's in good condition
  • Is it worth buying a used Chevy Volt with over 100K miles on it? The price is right, but is it worth it? I know I would have to install a power charging station which is an additional 1000 dollars. There's one for sale at 14,500 dollars… But most used Volts are around 23,000 dollars. My other two considerations are a new 2015 Honda Fit or a used Mark 6 VW Golf TDI I've seen people on youtube who average 120 mpg with the volt! One guy's was even 1000 mpg, I don't think he even brought it to the gas station since he bought the car!
  • Do I need to buy genuine Honda OEM air filters? I want to save money and replace them myself - is there a good generic or store brand, or am I better off buying genuine Honda parts online for a discount?
