Most Honda engines have been interference engines for a long time. I would have to assume that a briken timing belt would mean bent valves.
The timing belt doesn't interfere but the valves will get bent real quick if the timing belt breaks or jumps more than 2 teeth!
Pretty much all Hondas I've come across are interference. Make sure you change the timing belt.
Your 1999 Honda CRV does indeed have an interference engine. The cam belt and water pump should be replaced every 105,000 miles or every 10 years whichever comes first. If the belt breaks you will have serious internal engine damage. After 2006 all Honda 4 cylinder engines are NOT interference engines but all V6 engines ARE interference engines.
- How much does it cost to replace the timing belt on a 2004 Honda Element? I'm looking to buy my first car and I'm looking at a Used Honda Element. The only thing I'm concerned about it that the car has a lot of miles (200,000) and the timing belt hasn't been replaced. Generally, how much would that cost?

I have a 99 honda civic has new distributor plugs wires computer and timing belt and all relays are good i can't figure out why it want fire turns over fine was running good but i parked it and it has been like this every since
- I have a 2000 Honda Civic with 140,000 miles on it. Do you think the timing belt has been changed? I read somewhere that they are supposed to be changed at 105,000 miles, or seven years. My car has a lot more miles than that, and twice the age. Do you think the belt has been changed before? Or is it possible it's the original belt? Would the original have lasted this long?
