Will this ruin the engine?

Car is a honda crv 2003, its a truck and has v-tec. I drive to 5000 rpm when i drive will it ruin the car or reduce the life of the car? What rpm's should I be driving on? Going to high rpm bad, the 5000 rpm is not red but the 6500 is red? So what rpm should i be driving on?

Engines have a rev limiter on them, sat on it all the time won't do it any good but while driving you can hit it as much as you like (it won't be the best fastest shift though)

As long as your engine is warm and I mean warm you can rev the nuts off it all you want, just don't do it with your foot on the clutch because you will naff the thrust bearings

If you damage an engine by revving it something else is wrong. You didn't have enough oil or it was old, or you've been bouncing off the clutch changing gear

Over a long long period of time your piston rings will wear out but you'd have to rev it for years

Interesting fact: the Ford 2.3 duratec 5 cylinder lump will sit at full revs constantly for two weeks never turned off before it blows up (in factory test conditions)

You've got a v-tec man, their made to be revved up and thrashed

Allowing the engine to rev when applying load as well however is very bad. I.e. The revs rising when dropping down a gear. That's not just revving it though your not acelerating with the engine your pushing against it, your dumping a lot of load on the engine by selecting to lower gear and revving it this way really will mess it up. You'll send a piston through the block if you do this badly enough or bend a rod, this is one of the reasons race engines are built like they are

At top highway speeds, within range of the speed limit, you should still be at or below 4k RPMs.

All you are doing is burning a lot more fuel for no reason.
You need to get lessons to drive better.

Hi more damage is done in high gear at low RPM. This does more damage as an engine labouring causes more wear.
