Unless you can afford it go for it. I financed a car while in college and it was a big mistake. I love the car but I ended up having to work more and cut my classes to part time and move back home (I lived close to campus anyway) just to be able to afford the 400 dollar car note. If I had a better paying job maybe I wouldn't have had to make such drastic sacrifices but I did. Until 2016 I'm stuck in this situation until I graduate and get a better job with my degree.
Lesson don't have a car note in college unless you want to be broke forever.
I would never recommend a brand new (or 1 year old) car for a college student unless mommy & daddy are planning to write the check and hand you the keys.
Buy something use that you can afford to pay cash for. Get through college with the least amount of debt possible, then buy your dream car when you have your dream job with your dream paycheck.
Used is much more economical and you can still get the Factory Warranty in many cases.
usually the FW is on the car, or can be bought, if the car is <4 yrs old, in excel cond, <30k mi.
so i'd look for Honda like that. Get the Factory/Honda bumper to bumper level warranty, not the lower level drivetrain/powertrain w/ all the exclusions.

Why do young kids today feel they need a new or almost new car?
it ll be a huge mistake
buy something older and more affordable
The Honda Fit does not have a spare tire while the Versa's spare is suspended under the car which means you'll make a mess of your clothes getting it out. I'd go with the Versa but I would also put a disposable jumpsuit in the glovebox and an emergency kit with flares, you don't want someone driving over you while lying on the ground getting the tire. Of course, you could just call AAA and play Candy Crush for the three hours it takes them to arrive ( I think both Honda and Nissan both gives you their own version of roadside service which are more responsive than AAA ).
Of course, financing a new car is just the first step to a downward slope of debt for the rest of your life.
