How to make a honda as fast as the antiques at the track?
How does 40+ year old technology continiuosly beat the vtec?
K20/k24 engine, as in a cylinder head off a rsx type s or Integra type r (dc5) and the block off an accord or a crv with the transmission off a Integra type r (dc5). You will need one of Hondas lightest chassis like the 88 CRX HF weighing around 1800lb, that combo will give you around 240hp on a 1800lb car, you will need a good suspension and tires to put all the fwhp to the ground. A simple camshaft change will take you to the 300-330hp range and changing the exhaust (headers, high flow cat, exhaust system) will free up 35hp.
1) The right sleeved block & a heap load of boost.
2) Most of those cars have big *** motors. I'm a Honda fan, but you can't deny that that a 350 has nearly 4x the displacement of some Honda motors. In addition, the parts for 350's are way cheaper than parts for Honda motors (I never understood why though). Honda refuses to put their v8's in anything but their race cars.
3) Most track "antiques" are (highly) modified. If they weren't you would definitely know. They are few at the track.
An important part of the battle is RWD vs FWD. FWD is great for family cars like Hondas but really cuts into performance, especially coming off the line and cornering. More than one Honda enthusiast has wondered why his 1/4 mile times only improved 0.1 when increasing the power radically, like from 600 to 800 hp. Weight transfer works in favor of RWD cars and against FWD cars. Now, if you compared 1/4 mile times in reverse you would have something going. Anyway, trying to regain lost time off the line is a losing battle.
In circuit racing the poor dynamics of FWD cornering shows up. More power makes FWD understeer while it makes RWD oversteer. Steering with the throttle is not in the cards for FWD.
There are very good reasons Formula cars are RWD.
To start off, I'm not a fan of either Honda or Muscle cars as i personally think that modified Civics are for kids and Muscle cars are for show offs (personal opinion, so don't bash me on that)
Only an idiot would compare a Honda to something with 3-4x the displacement. It's like asking which will win in a wrestling match between a 5 year old and a 25 year old.
Secondly, you can't brag about the V8 motors on 40 year old muscle cars because a Civic Type R produces more hp per liter. That's 197hp from a 2.0 motor (The 6.6L V8 on the 2G Camaro doesn't produce 660hp, doesn't it). And during the strict emission standards, their 4.4L V8 could only churn out 120hp.
Thirdly, the antiques that you see are most likely modified boosting 800+hp. Stock antiques will ride like pigs on roller skates on a circuit, and a stock 1972 Z28 will do a 15.3 in a quarter mile. A stock 2006 Civic Si will do it in the upper 14s, and no matter how FWD stinks in a circuit, it will still be better than an RWD antique muscle car., a stock antique won't stand out
- Simple repairs to make car fast again? 1986 Honda prelude, carbourated, 5 speed. My friend had it a while ago and he said it was very fast when he originally had it, about a year ago. When I drive it it seems to have very little power, it accelerates really really slow. I was wondering if there's any simple repairs I can do to make it a little faster besides a tune up?
- How tall is a Honda CRF150R and how fast could it go? I'm looking for a bike that will suit my height. I'm pretty short at 4,9:( Will a Honda CRF150R suit me? I also want to know its top speed.
- How fast is a Honda CRF50 for a young adult? How fast would a Honda CRF50 be for a young adult. I know there not meant for young adults about just wondering.
- How to make my Honda fast? In getting a Honda civic 95 two door. Pretty soon I want to make it fast and look good but I don't want to look like a ricer(if anyone knows what that is) . What tune ups can I do to it and good cheap aftermarket parts should I get. I'm not familiar with cars a whole bunch so kind of dumb it down a little lol.
