Is a 2001 Cadillac Seville a bad idea?

I really want a car with some more power, I'm getting rid of my hyundai elantra from 2002 which aren't fast to begin with but mine in particular was a dog. I'm talking 12 second 0-60 time here. Girlfriend has had a saturn v6 that is so much more fun to drive, and really made me want something with some kick but is still a sedan (no mustang, no camaro).

Doesn't need to be a sports car, and it's not a necessity but it would be AWESOME to have a car that ran 60 around 7 seconds or lower. I have been looking at buicks, but they just don't have much bite and aren't fun to drive.

So I find an older 2001 Caddy with 105,000 miles on it in a car with 2 owners and runs functional no red flags. My budget is around 4,500. Would I be crazy to take it? They want 3,200, and i see the blue book value is around 2,600. It concerns me that the value is so low. Is the maintenance crazy more expensive on a Caddy over a buick that it would make that big of a difference over the next few years?

Toyotas and Hondas are way out of budget (like 6,000 for a car with 180,000 miles on it, it's insane), and nothing else in my pricerange has much bite in the engine that I know of. If it's going to be drastic, I won't take it. But the 2001 model is before the fancy suspension was added, but after the head gasket northstar repairs. Any advice would be helpful.

A 2001 Seville STS to be exact

I actually liked the Sevilles of that age. They had plenty of power with the Northstar V-8, and were comfortable to drive. Good handling and they still have that Cadillac class luxury. The Northstar engine got a bad rap for reliability because of head gasket problems, but other than that, they were pretty nice cars.

Use premium gasoline, and drive conservatively, and you'll get 24 MPG or better, and still be able to run circles around your Girlfriend's Saturn.

  • Would it be, a bad idea for me to try and fix a blown head gasket? Its for a honda. Stock d16 aftermarket rims and is 1500 with a blown head gasket. My dad is the best honda mechanic in my town. He would be guiding me through it. Also the car had 137k miles and good paint. How much would it be worth if it was fixed?
  • Will my car make it cross country? Can anyone who knows about cars tell me if this is a bad idea? I want to drive to colorado to stay for a few weeks and don't want to fly it will be about.a 1300 mile journey I have a 2002 Honda oddessey tht has 242k miles on it but its been babied its whole life and has a few new parts including a new transmission its seems to drive fine I was just wondering if that seems like a stupid or risky idea to drive it that far
  • Which is a better buy a Cadillac Deville or a Lincoln LS? Please do not tell me get a honda or toyota or even a nissan. I'm not a fan of those cheap cars. I'm planning on buying a used one either a cadillac or lincoln ls for about 4 grand
  • Is it a bad idea for me to refinance my original Honda auto loan? My credit has improved over the last 6 months and I would like to refinance in another 6 months or so once I feel more comfortable with my score. BUT is this a bad idea? Will Honda scold me for this when I go to the Service dept for maintenance? Or will other future lenders see me as some sort of unreliable consumer moving forward? I worry about this. Any advice would be great and much appreciated!
