Is a top of the line k&n oil filter better than the filter a honda service center would use for an oil change?

Personally all manufacturers are a rip off, there's hardly any difference between manufacturers products and products from a spare part shop.

Only difference is a thicker case and welded on nut for removal. It's designed for off road use to prevent punctures. Inside it's the same as any comparable high quality filter.

Use wix

Honda dealer makes a lot of money on parts. A K&N or Fram or Wix is just as good.

K&n are far superior products than stock

Engine oil filters are "designed" to catch particles suspended in the engine oil.
now imagine where does the particles come from.
1. Tear and wear meaning very very tiny metal shavings from all metal parts where there's friction inside the engine.
2. Blow by --> meaning carbon particulates and unburnt gasoline that never escaped the combustion chamber by the exhaust pipe but made it through the piston rings all the way down to the crank case. This is actually what causes the engine oil to turn dark as the mileage increases.

story short. If the engine is worn out and old or if the oil change intervals were neglected a good E.O.F will do you no good. This you will know if the engine oil gets really dark very soon after you changed it with fresh new engine oil.

Honda filter is designed with correct pressure bypass valve for your car. Rather than obsess on which filter do the oil and filter service regularly. Just avoid what Jiffy Lube puts in.
