Lost documentation for 1992 Honda crx Hf How can i retrieve this?
A good friend of mine sold me a car (well practically gave me it sold me it for $200). (The car runs great to ) But it do sent have a title Or any documentation (The car is not stolen it is his i checked at the local police department )He lost all of the documents during a divorce And hasn't had any contact with his ex wife. He is always on the road (Truck driver). And we lost contact and he only comes to town every 6 months. The car is In my drive way at my house it will be here a week today. Is there any way I can get the title to the car? It is an 1992 Honda crx HF if not is there anything i could do Have any advice Please don't just say junk it or something like that Thanks.
Only the current owner of the car, which is the person whose name appears on the title, can obtain a duplicate title for the car. Without the title in your name, it isn't your car.
Have him file for a lost title at dmv
Whoevers name was on the title has to apply for a replacement. You can't do it without them.
Then when they get the replacement, you can transfer it to your name.
If that doesn't happen, you just bought a car you can't register, buy a tag or legally drive on a public road.
Worst case scenario, its in his ex wifes name and she joined a cult in a 3rd world country. You have to buy a bond from an insurance company and then you can buy a bonded title and register it that way.
Its not cheap.
You don't legally own the car until you have a title in your name in your hand. If you don't have a title, that car is not legally yours.
You can't drive it, because you can't register it or buy plates or insurance until you can produce a title for the car in your name.
