1985 Honda Nighthawk 650 front brakes stuck after bleeding

This bike sat in someone's yard in the rain for years. Got it for $50 and have it running. Yesterday I drained all brake fluid from the master cylinder to the left side brake caliper. I bled it all out because I needed to clean the master cylinder of grime. Now the front brakes are locked and the wheel won't rotate. When I bled my Honda Shadow's brakes, atleast the front wheel moved if necessary during the process. Does anyone know what could be wrong? Are the brake calipers pistons stuck and need to be unpried? If so, can this be done without ordering new parts/o-rings? Was hoping to have this done today!

You had said that you needed to clean the master cylinder of grime, well that is the first place I'd look. Loosen the bleeder screw to see if there's pressure holding the piston if there's then the fluid is not returning when the handle is let off. If the fluid just slowly comes out as it should then I'd be looking at the piston sticking or the caliper is not moving freely on it's slides.

When it comes to brakes, I always buy good-quality new parts. I don't mess with used, rebuilt or cheapo parts.

Brakes are way too important. Do you really want to get hurt or killed because you took the cheap way out?

Full calliper strip needed to find what to replace - probably due to corrosion not letting the seals pull the piston pressure off.

  • Clutch bleeding problem? I have been trying to do the gravity bleeding method for a while now and I press the clutch in and fluid comes out but it stops and does not continuously drip… What can I be doing wrong? 2007 Honda Accord manual

  • My 1983 Honda nighthawk 650 won't start with the electric start? I recently replaced the ignition coils because the old ones were getting heat soaked and the bike would die, however now the bike won't start with the electric start it turns over fin and the starter sounds fine but it won't start occasionally it ll start when it's cold or try to but I've been having to bump start it in order to ride it. So what's making it do this? Could it be the kill switch? Or something else?
