Battery not holding charge even after replacing several parts?
I'm having tough time for past 6 months with my motorcycle that has battery charging issues. The battery gets fully discharged even when the bike is being ridden, leaving the horn and indicators dead. I took it to service centre and they have replaced the battery thrice, regulator rectifier twice, wiring kit and stator. But the problem still remains unfixed. My bike is a 2005 model Hero Honda splendor (100CC, 4-Stroke). I noticed that this is the first time that I'm using dry cell ( maintenance free) battery. I wonder if my bike is only capable of properly charging flooded battery that I was using earlier without much problem.
Added (1). The mechanic told me that he has checked the vehicle thoroughly but couldn't find the exact cause of the problem. I took it to another service centre of Hero honda but they too failed to identify the problem. They have now temporarily given me a wet cell battery to see if things improve.
The only thing you haven't mentioned is the wiring and connectors. Could be an open or bad connection somewhere.
Why not buy a multimeter for a couple bucks and find the draw?
Get a wiring diagram and start checking for the drain.
I'm not familiar with that model.
If the engine has points ignition, the flywheel might be damaged or loose - not producing electricity.
Have your mechanic check the charging voltage, directly at the stator connector, with the engine running.
The dry cell battery shouldn't be a factor, but it must have the same amperage rating as the OEM battery.
Well it sounds like the so called factory techs are just guessing and replacing possible faulty parts. Its time to actually troubleshoot by checking the stators output and the voltage regulators output. Start with a fully charged good battery. Get a multi meter and a test light. Get a factory service manual. Follow steps as outlined in that manual. More than likely its only a bad connection. You will need to trace the power from the battery through the ignition switch and charging system. Not a hard job.
This shows you how to check your stator
Before you do this just check the voltage of the battery running and not running, your readings should be (if it is a 12 volt system) 14-15 and 12 respectively.
A few minutes with a multimeter can save you money.
- Are there several 2012 transit buses by mid-2011? I'm starting to wonder because I already saw the 2016 Honda Pilot as well as the 2016 Acura RDX on the road (aka in mid-2015). And these cars got upgraded by model year. So, does this mean that there were several to plenty of 2012 transit buses in mid-2011? a) yes b)no And do transit buses often get upgraded by model year just like cars do? a) yes b) no When you answer, can you give me an explanation?
- I have just changed the battery in my honda cbr1000rr after one month and it not firing up? It a honda cbr1000rr 2008 model. The bike's battery has been dead for more then a month… And it was parked in the sun for two months. The battery is good now but the bike won't start. It just keeps trying but it doesn't.
- After replacing our car battery, our remote starter just turns and turns without actually starting the car? My wife has a 2010 Honda Fit and we just had to replace the battery. We got a remote starter installed from Best Buy in either 2010 or 2011. But after the recent battery replacement, the remote starter responds by just cranking and not starting. It does like three sets of cranking before stopping. I don't remember the brand of remote starter, but anyone have any insight of what I need to do?
- Why is my 2005 Honda CRV not holding Frion? I've replaced the compressor, the clutch, the belts, the hoses, and the dual fans, but it still won't hold Frion for more than 2 weeks. If I'm lucky, it will sometimes work afterwards if I drive over 40 mph.
