Best motorcycle for highway commuting?

Whenever I go to forums and websites with reviews for bikes they always praise the cornering and review the bikes in the mountains and on the track. Heres the issue: I live in the city. Where there are zero twisties, countless lights and long(30+ minutes) highway commuting each day. I've already decided on a sport-bike as a first bike, preferably either a 300cc or 600cc SuperSport, but my main question is if a 300cc(the safest bike for beginning from what I hear) will be suitable for my commuting each week. I know that the 300cc bikes are much easier to maneuver and control but since I go 30+ minutes on the highway each day and cornering isn't what I'll be doing then my main concern is whether or not the 300cc will be able to hold-up and provide really great times on the straight highway. Whatever bike I choose, 300cc or 600cc SuperSport, I won't be getting rid of for a long time, 3-4 years at least so I need this bike to last and not "bore" me. Most of you will say that a 300cc bike is what I should get and that it'll be plenty and I'm sure it would but I'm strongly considering a 600cc SuperSport due to having straight highways as my commute everyday. Specifically a CBR600RR from Honda(sat on one at a dealership(2014 and 2007, along with a Ninja 300). So in my position, would a 600cc SuperSport be acceptable as a starter bike? I know it's a street-legal racing machine and I've accepted that. Also, I have scheduled an MSF course and will be taking it in a few weeks.

300cc is way more then enough speed for the highway.

  • What is a good engine speed range for highway driving? My car only has four gears, cruises nicely from 80-100 kpm before reaching over 2000rpm. I'd like to know what is the upper most engine speed (rpm) that my motor should stay under while driving whilst keeping the engine healthy not overworking. I have a 3.0 v6 Honda VTEC motor.
  • Out of these three cars which has the best to worst handling on highway turns and curves? 2006 Mazda 3i 5 speed manual 2003 Honda Element awd 4 speed automatic 1998 Nissan Altima gxe 4 speed automatic
  • Will my Honda Rebel 250 handle an hour on the highway at 60/65mph? I just had my truck tires stabbed by one of the wild 10 year old kids that roam my neighborhood. Now I need to ride my motorcycle to work. I'm not a big fan of highway riding. It's scary and I don't want to die. Anyway, the question is - will my little Honda Rebel 250 handle going 65 for an hour continuously? I know it's not meant for high speeds and is more of a little put putter.
  • What scooter is best for commuting in London on daily basis? 125cc vs 300cc? I like the Honda PCX 125 and also the Honda Forza 300. I do not know which one to buy. I wonder if 125cc is enough or if I should go for the 300cc. New or 2nd hand? I also have seen the Honda Forza 125 and I wonder if it is worth it. The PCX seems to be very good value for money (maintenance and running costs), however it is small size in comparison with the Forza 300 (obviously at a higher cost). Any suggestions?
