Buying a motorcycle soon, what basic gear to buy?

I'm going to buy a honda cb400 for about $3000 soon enough, any tips on what to buy? Hope it won't cost more than $1500. I live in the philippines, but, i'd be willing to go to other countries to buy my gear e.g. Japan.
i've been thinking of going to japan to buy a shoei x12 and other gears, it costs about $500 in the us/aus but its only $300 in japan. I could use the extra $200 to spend a night in japan.
so what should i buy? And where would it be feasible to buy?
is a shoei x12 okay? Are leather over-pants better than kevlar jeans? Or should i wear kevlar pants under leather over-pants? If so what leather over-pants are there to buy? What brand of jackets should i buy?
dianese, alpine stars? What boots should i buy? Gloves? Would i need a neck brace? What about armor?
my main concern would be safety, rather spend cash to be safe, than spend cash to be healed.
cheers!

Hi so crash helmet leathers and boots and gloves for a start.

There are vasts extremes and trade offs in the choice of protective gear. What I may feel safe in may be entirely different than the way you feel. Also what I feel thermally uncomfortable in you may feel justified in wearing.

I've gone with Tourmaster. I like the details, reflective piping etc. When I went with multiple jackets for different thermal conditions the liners interchange and I have more available options covering a greater range if it should be cold in the morning and hot latter in the ride.

Any boot is going to run into money… So why not pay $100 more and get a dedicated motorcycle boot that can get caught under a sliding motorbike and have a chance of still walking away. I'm a big guy and Sidi was the only fully armored boot that came in a size that fit. What the salesmen don't tell you is you get wonderful road feed back threw those hard soles, the hardened tops give a shifter feedback unknown in any other boot format. But you can't walk in them!

I may feel the most comfortable in a full face helmet, I like the protection, I like the reduced wind noise, and years ago I frostbit the moist parts of my eyelids and don't like wind. You may feel restricted and only desire a half lid?

You may live where it is hot and humid, leather may require a lot of care over moisture deterioration. I prefer textile and can remove the protective armor, throw the jacket, etc. In the wash, hang it out on the line to dry, and PRESTO! I have a garment that looks like the day I bought it! I have a perforated wide open armored textile jacket I wear up to 107F when other riders have long ago left their leather hanging in the closet!
I wear Kevlar undergarments every time it is thermally bearable to do so. I never ride without an armored jacket, Kevlar reinforced jeans, or fully armored gloves. Never ride more than 4 miles without fully armored boots. All I can tell you is that all that gear will cost less than a handshake of a dermatologist before a skin graft even gets mentioned.

Well i think you should buy a biker leather jacket it would look amazing and gives you heroic look when you ride a bike.
after a lot of searching em leaving a use full link in your source panel just check it out
might will help you!

My first question is which type of bike you are planning to buy. Then according to the bike you will have to buy the accessories. I suggest you to visit suzuki website to get more information about the riding gears.

  • Should i buy start buying motorcycle gear? I'm taking the MSF basic course on july 25-27, should i start buying motorcycle gear? Or wait until i get my motorcycle. Cause i'm thinking between a cruiser ( ex: honda shadow ) or a sport bike. Cause i'm buying it used.
  • Shoud I buy the motorcycle before or after I get my license and gear? I found an interesting offer on a Honda CB500 from 1993 but I don't have my license nor gear. I'm afraid that if I don't buy it now I might loose it. What do you think? Of course I don't plan on riding with no gear. I'm going to store the motorcycle until it's 100% safe
  • Motorcycle stalls when put in first gear? I try turning on my motorcycle and it would idle just fine, I'll rev it and it sounded good but when put into first gear (while still holding on to the clutch) it died instantly. I tried playing with the choke and turning it on that way but eventually it stalled and now it won't even start. It's a Honda Shadow VT1100 and the battery was charged recently so could it be the alternator?
  • Is it ok to take off from second gear on my motorcycle? I ride a small honda cbr 125 and first gear is extremely short would there be anything wrong with starting from second gear from a stop instead of first?
