Can I buy a motorcycle from a dealer being under 16?

If I go to a dealer can I buy a motorcycle if I don't get a loan on it. I live in California. Also what should I expect would they give me a hard time or ask my parents if they're sure about they're decision and make them sign papers. Or will it be simple and I could just walk out the door with my new Honda Grom.

Added (1). I pay for it in full cash could I get it?

If you don't have a license and insurance you can't get a loan on anything. You don't have either if you're a minor

If you have the cash, you can buy one. However: How will you get it home? You have no license so you can't legally drive it on the road. You have no insurance, so the dealer won't let you drive off.

Nope. YOU are still a minor. You can't legally enter into a contract to purchase a motor vehicle without your parents' consent. At least one of them needs to be there to sign the sales contract.

If you know the guys there and have all the money in cash then yes you probably could. If you are looking to finance a motorcycle then you will need a co-signer. The co-signer doesn't have to be your parents though. Just someone who is 18 and over and agrees to sign

No, but not for the reasons given in many of the answers here. A minor can't buy a motor vehicle in California UNLESS he has a driver's license. Minors can have a driver's license in California, but there's no practical way a person under 16 would have one. The minimum age would be 16. (You'd get your permit at 15 1/2, making your eligible to get a license at 16.)

Dealer's choice. The dealer might take cash from you. Be sure to get a receipt.

No. No. No.

How many times a week do we see this question asked?

Someone under the age of 18 Can't get finance or a loan.

Even if you could, with no previous credit and due to your age, you'd be paying some of the worst interest rates on the market!

No, you are too young to legally contract, meaning the dealer can't legally transfer the title of the vehicle you are buying to you. It will have to be transferred to one of your legal guardians, usually your parents. Congrats on the grom if you get it, but please never take it on the street, it is dangerously slow.

NO at least not at a good dealership they do not want the problems that go with selling a motorcycle to some one under age.

  • When you buy/lease a brand new car, are you able to add things/customize it at the dealer? In 2014 my friend financed a base model Jetta brand new red. However his model came with fog lights and LED turn signals but had hub caps. However, my other friend had a 2014 Jetta as well and had the middle trim and had no fog lights or LED turn signals but had aluminum alloy rims. Can you add things like that to a car? I know at Honda if I wanted Fog lights on the middle trim they would ask me to upgrade entirely to the highest trim which i don't need, I just want the fog lights
  • Should I insure my motorcycle in my name with a permit because I'm under 16? So I got a 2012 Honda CBR250R but its brand new. When I try to quote the bike online it doesn't let me submit because I'm 15 and like 10 months old. I'll be 16 in less that 2 months. So I was wondering if I can just insure it in my dads name and ride on my permit until I turn 16. So what should I do?
  • Motorcycle dealer does not want to negotiate? Should I pass? Trying to buy a 2015 honda pcx150. I've called 2 dealers who both only want me to pay full MSRP + TTL + Fees. Why are they so reluctant to negotiate? I'm a cash buyer. What is their problem? Should I just pass and maybe wait until the winter starts to hit and maybe then they would be more willing to negotiate?
