Fell of a motorcycle, is that a common thing?

Alright. I want to get my drivers licence for motorcycles, and I haven't really ridden anything powerful before. But in my country, I'm required to spend at least 33 hours out on the streets, in traffic followed by my instructor in a car. (Of course, not all hours at once.). The motorbike I have to ride is a Honda CBR500. I've spent 2 hours in a parking lot. Getting used to the clutch, accelerating, doing figure 8's etc. I had no trouble whatsoever. However, today out on the streets, I fell within the first 10 minutes (later on it was ok). I was about to take a turn, I was going really slowly, and before I got to the stop line, the light changed to red, I panic braked and fell of the bike. Luckily I have some odd reflexes and I jumped off of it and landed on my feet… I think the law in my country is a bit stupid. You are free to drive 49cc bikes without a licence. You can get a licence to drive 125cc or 600cc bikes and of course the no restriction one. However, if you're going for the 600cc one. You MUST practice and pass the test on a bike that's on the upper limits. So even though I have ridden motorcycles for a year or so, mainly Yamaha YBR 125. My skills are pretty much useless. I wasn't worried before, but now I'm starting to be… Could you guys give me some advice? It'd be really helpful.

Something that is on two-wheels is likely to fall over at some point - an inexperienced rider is very likely to have some kind of problem keeping their bike upright at some point (often with very bad results).

Be happy that it happened the way it did - try to learn something from it, and seriously consider taking a riding course.

At slow speeds don't use the front brake.

All laws are stupid especially the law of gravity, you might think the world sucks but that doesn't change that law.

Most every older rider has taken a tumble or two, more embarassing than hurtful, still one learns and moves on.

Gosh that's odd. I've never done anything silly like that… Ever

Slow speeds, keep your hand away from the front brake

Pretty common learning curve oops.

Low speed turning, like in a parking lot don't use front brake. Learned that one long time ago. Most of my choppers don't even have a front brake. Makes it easier. But everyone will drop a bike in a parking lot or at a red light. Stuff happens. Relax, pay attention but don't scared or nervous. Stuff happens just grin and bear it. Hopefully stupid stuff doesn't happen right in front of a really pretty woman. That always sucksd! Dumped my 650 yamaha Special [chopper] many years ago acting cool [think acting stupid] in front of two hot ladies in post office parking lot. Dumped the bike, bent my shift lever. Rode home stuck in second gear. LMFAO

What you have learned on the YBR directly transfers to the larger bike. You know what you did wrong and you know how to deal with it.

You also know that lights change colour regularly, you should never be caught out.

As you approach a light that is on green you set yourself a point beyond which you will not be able to safely stop, this is dictated by the road conditions and other road users as well as by the bike's brakes and tyres. If you pass that point and the lights change you should continue through the lights (this is not a routine course of action and should only happen rarely and the distances you set are based on experience).

You chose the wrong course of action, it happens, learn from it rather than blaming the licensing laws for your scare.

No, With anything else practice makes perfect.I

  • Least attractive common car to women? What would be a car that a potential date would find LEAST attractive… I'm talking about fairly popular cars made recently (after 1990) OR a general type of car (like hatchback for example). Would it be a Honda? Maybe a Toyota Camry?
