How to recover from a motorcycle falling from sand/gravel on ground?

I was on 1st or 2nd gear and making a slow right turn into a park. All of a sudden my motorcycle started to fall as there was a little sand or gravel on the road. I almost hit the ground but somehow I managed to bring bike up by rolling on the throttle. When I did that the bike got up straight again. As soon as I was straight I hit the brakes and avoided falling this way. Don't know why I did that maybe instinctively. At least this is what I remember. I'm a new to motorcycling and I have a Honda crb250. My question is was what I did correct? The whole experience scared the heck out of me and wanted to know what to do if it happens again?

Hi shutting the engine down and putting both legs out to stop the falling would have been the best thing to do. Loose surfaces are always a problem so riding slow with both legs off the pegs to help stop you falling.

Sounds like your a 'Natural'! All's well that ends well!

Gravel and loose surface conditions come under a recommendation that you refrain from radical adjustments, and keep steady throttle. And some recommend that you just let the bike ride threw the conditions… That's been my course of action and aside from some really intense emotional spikes. The bike has always come through for me!

In many cases rolling on the throttle can help stabilize the bike and this is exactly what you did. For your incident it was the right thing to do.

Trying to brake and putting your feet out to try to break your fall would have put you on the ground.

  • Where to purchase a horn ground ring? I got a 93 Honda civic dx sedan. It was in a minor accident where the air bag deployed & the steering wheel has been recently changed. Unfortunately the horn doesn't work. The mechanic who changed the wheel says I need to purchase a ground horn ring in order for the horn to work with the new steering wheel. I'd like to know if that is the correct name of part & if so where can I purchase one because I've searched eBay Amazon and the web itself and came up with nothing
