Is a Honda CRF250L a long lasting reliable bike?

I'm wanting to get a dual sport bike, and I have almost 0 knowledge on this subject. I just need something to go from home to college and to work and maybe on the weekends have some fun on a few trails here and there. I have never owned a dirt bike or ridden one for that matter. I'm real good with keeping up maintenance on my truck so I would have no problem changing the oil and washing and doing what ever else has to be done to keep it up and running. How long do these last if taken care of the right way? Is maintenance expensive? Is it a good long term investment? Any advise on this subject would be great. Is there another bike that you would recommend If so, why?

Change all of the fluids at least once a year and the oil at least twice (depending on mileage), and clean the bike and chain frequently, change the spark plug and filters. It is inexpensive if you do your own work. Most bikes will easily go 25k miles before they need a clutch or transmission rebuild. An "investment?" Not really. Motorcycles do not earn interest until they are classics.

You will probably get better results if you ask this in the Motorcycle section under Cars and Transportation or Motorcycle Racing in Sports.

This section is about bicycles, which usually don't need oil changes.

Yes, they can be good, reliable bikes. It's all in how you treat it. If you ride the bike like an adult, don't abuse it by running it at redline all the time and pretending you are on a racetrack, and you keep it maintained, it can give you many, many miles of trouble free riding.

No, they are pretty easy and cheap to maintain. Tires and gas will be your most expensive purchases and it doesn't use much gas and tires can last a long time on that bike.

The crfl is a stupid version of the crf250x I wouldn't advise getting one hers a list of good enduro bikes drz400 crf250x crf450x ktm exc wr400

One of my buddies has one I have rode it a few times. They are nice smooth bikes really solid for maintenance just because its the same motor as the CBR250 with different gearing. The only thing i would change about the bike and my friend didn't is convert to an o-ring chain. Just buy one get the links right and put it on done. The standard chain that comes from the factory wears a bit quick IMO. Maintenance on them keep the oil changed and the chain lubed up you should be fine. Oil changes on a bike are in the ball park of 20-30 use factory filters NOT K&N and good oil if your not sure Honda's oil will be fine I run Moble 1 4T motorcycle oil which would work for this bike as well. Can of chain lube is 10 bucks will last you 6 months. I would recommend a Yamaha WR250X or R Mainly because more power you won't get bored of it. And a 6th gear which is nice. The bike you are looking at is like a Cadillac it rides super nice its smooth but not very fast and its heavy for what it is.
