What amount of cc's is good for a beginning rider?
Everyone always says to get the Ninja 250 or the Honda CBR250R. Others say you'll get bored with the 250, get a 500cc or a little smaller. For me, that bike would be the Honda CBR500R. Everyone says it depends on your weight. Right now, I'm on average about 105 pounds. But I wanna gain up to 125 pounds. BMI said so… I'll gain that weight before I get a bike because I wanna wait a couple years before I buy one anyway. I live with my mom and she would never let me buy one. But I'm learning to live on my own. So, the real question is… What is a good starter bike for a 125 pound man who has never driven a motorcycle or dirt bike? I really don't wanna start on a 250cc or 300cc. 400cc's to 500cc's is where I wanna start. But give me your opinion.
All the people you talked to are right and wrong
a 250 is a good start and yes you could get board with that
but a 500 could be too much for you to handle at first
and yes you use your body to control the bike so your weight is an issue
I say start with a used 250 then go to a bigger when you decide you like riding then go to a larger cc
you may find riding is great but not a everyday thing for you would be nice to save a little cash on something you might end up only riding on weekends
I love my 2012 250r ninja. I'm 6'3 210 lbs
Screw "beginner" -- what is a good motorcycle. Answer -- depends on why you ride.
Easy to ride, city streets, , a 50-125cc.
Need to do freeways, 150-250cc is heavier, but still good for streets.
A 250cc cruiser, dual-sport, or scooter can do 75+ mph, faster to get a ticket on most Interstates/freeways. Sporty 250cc class motorcycles can do 100 mph, a bit more or less, can get tickets on any Interstate/freeway and a ticket for reckless driving in most. You never need more than 250cc on two wheels.
** need **
People *want* more. They want to be able to do 120 mph (a 500) or 130-140 mph (a 650) or 160 mph (600 racing) or 180 mph (liter sport bike.) When you can't ride good, you need more speed to compensate. NO PROBLEM! You don't want to learn the fine points or riding, you just want to brag and go straight line speed, go for it! You don't need a 500 to start, lots of idiots start with 600cc racing bikes.
It does not depend on your weight - as long as you are not enormously heavy any 250 bike will propel you at far more than any national speed limit.
If you get bored on a 250 you are not doing it right.
But first get some professional training so you have some kind of baseline to gauge what you want from a bike.
200ccm, for a 125 pound person on a dirtbike. A heavier dirtbike will be more difficult to handle offroad and that is not good specially for a beginner.
if it is a street-bike, then 350ccm should be ok but not more than 400cm. More power is in my opinion dangerous for a beginner. It needs experience in different road conditions, traffic situations etc. To learn to securely handle power and when there's enough learning from experience, then its time to go for 500ccm with a nice little turbo on it and 177hp on the wheel, because power is nothing without control.
If the CBR500R floats your boat that is what you buy / go to a bike shop sit on one
feel the weight to see if you can handle it / this bike will make you a good rider
but beware if you ride beyond your limits they can bite
- What would you do if a lady around 30-37 told you that you were useless and would never amount to anything? She's a well dressed white lady with a brand new Honda SUV and she has a daughter that looks about 12 that is also well dressed and the girl is being rude and both are being very rude to the guy at the counter at Subway. Would it be wrong to curse out the old witch who tried to start a fight and cursed out the subway worker and you?

- What's a good beginner bike for a tall rider? I've always wanted to get a bike ever since my mom let me ride one when I was 12. I'm a 16 year old girl, 5'9", 135 pounds. I was thinking about a Triumph Bonneville (it's my dream to own one but now I'm thinking it's too small) or a Honda. Does anyone know what would be a good bike for me, even if I grow an inch or two more before I can afford one?
